Seeing Sam Winnall on top goal scoring form has been great recently, but with a week left of the January transfer window it might also be a worry. Was speaking to a Huddersfield fan today who was asking if it was worth them making a bid. Inevitably a bit of success attracts interest, but would be disappointed to see him leave now we've just started to get a bit of momentum...

Wolves fans online want him back there.... I'd be surprised if there's no interest in he and Conor. Maybe even Marley. It's a good thing though. So long as we get fair prices, I've no issue with the strategy. Peterborough make it work. We get double the crowds they do. We can make it work better than they can.

Perhaps doesn't have the pace for top tier but think on form he could manage well in the Championship

I know it's sounds daft, but if Washington is worth that, why shouldn't we ask for £2m plus if anyone asks. If anyone is on PC's secret friends list, make sure he flipping knows his value this time.

Hahahahah !!!!!!!!...................will get nowt if arrrr Pat has owt to do wi it.

Then again, and credit were credit is due, these players are on longer term contracts so we might (and it is only a 'might') get more for them than a cup of tea and a bag of chips.
And as I've said all along..........not bothered who we sell.........as long as we get the going (as per Sheffield United) rate of payment

I was told back in November that clubs were looking at him (but they look at loads and loads of players) and he could be going in January but at that time .....well nothing looked rosy. I asked my mate did he mean Hourihane and he defo said no it was Winnall. (it was around the time of the alleged Pearson to Bournemouth bids).
Sam is definitely a player we need to hold on to ................if we replace the guy. who I keep saying (as a lot do), in this division he is a 20 goal a season man, would cost some decent Wonga, unless we go down the 1 to 3 month loan market!

It's Barnsley - we've such a long history of selling our best players - the list is too long to even start - of course we'll sell him if the offer comes in.

any club will sell if the offer is right. When is SSW's contact up if its this summer I could see us making a panic sale for 500K but if its still got 18 months we have no reason to sell unless someone offers serious cash. A championship club comes in with £2 million + its hard to argue to keep him.

In any case if we sell we all know that the fee will be undesclosed

    Or the right time.

I don't want Winnall to go, but if he's going to keep scoring at the rate he is at the moment he will go, because we never keep players like that. He's actually the perfect striker for us at the moment. His all round game is OK, but nothing special, where as his finishing is as good as you get at this level. We've got a squad full of players who can create chances for a goal scorer: Hourihane, Hammill, Watkins, Isgrove, Fletcher and (potentially) Williams are creating dozens of them. And Sam's there to stick them away.

Be daft to sell him then, and I hope we don't, but with it being the January transfer window, when teams are far more reluctant to sell players because they struggle to get a replacement in, and with Sam still having 18 months left on his contract, any offer is going to have to be considerable for us to even consider it. In all likelihood, more than he's actually worth. I still hope we'd turn it down, but we've then got a marker. If we do keep him, and he continues scoring, the chances are he'll want to go in the summer. Maybe not, I don't know, but he's an ambitious lad and if he wants to play at a higher level and earn more money, we could hardly blame him. If someone then wants to buy him, we can point to the fact that we turned down such-and-such an amount in January, he's scored a lot more goals since then, and even though he now only has a year left on his contract, if they want him they're going to have to at least match that. If they're not prepared to do that, we can just say with the way we finished the season, we think we'll get promoted this time around, so we'll keep him and offer him Championship wages for next season.

    Welcome to fantasy island.

We are a selling club, accept that fact.
If Bury or Rochdale put in a 200k offer we'd accept it cos that's what we do.... oh and no sell on.
I do not trust our lot to sell baked beans at the right price. Fleece the fans for admission and food and drink but give our assets away cheaply... undisclosed of course.

This for me is the whole point of our long term strategy .........but it doesn't work. The more we produce good young players the more we sell, the more we replace with loans.
Well that has been evident this year. None of us like losing our best players, its the cost in real terms of replacing them.
However we have to be realistic and if Pat Cryne wishes to leave us, sell us, whatever, then there will be no more of him putting cash in and we will have self finance more than ever. Leaving us with an average budget for players.
Of course he may sell to an arab billionaire who wishes wash us with riches but ..............

Trouble is we sell on January 31, leaving no time to buy replacements.

    A. Is what I've said not fact? He's played Winnall on the wing, in midfield and even dropped him. There can be no agument on this.
    B. LJ's run of form or Adam Hammills? Thats up for debate.
