I've got mixed feelings tonight. Another victory and another clean sheet. Positive goal difference. Survival assured. We now sit seven points outside the play offs with no chance of actually getting there. What a shame the manager chose to waste five months of the season persisting with the insipid sideways-backwards-backwards-sideways-backwards football that clearly wasn't going to work despite seeing the potential rewards of playing more up tempo football which saw good victories over Gillingham and Swindon. The manager even proudly said that we wouldn't be looking to get the ball into box at every opportunity, only to abandon his philosophy when forced to and to see the benefits. If only he had woken up at the end of November. Ah well. Onwards and upwards.
I agree we wasted points playing a poor style but last time I checked there was 57 points available and were only 7 points behind. Not sure why that's an impossibility. A few years ago in the championship Hull had 38 points at this stage and finished 3rd on 75 points. Its still possible
It's fine to be controversial. But not to be plain stupid. Mathematics dictates that there has got to be a chance of making the play offs. I suggest you simply stick to panning the manager, which is your opinion and your right.
Playoffs are very possible. I agree it's a shame we wasted the amount of potential points playing the way we did, but hey, at least we got there eventually!
It's not just the points difference though - it's the fact that we have to outperform seven teams above us by at least seven points. At last one of them will show decent form until the end of the season.
The team should just carry on playing the same way. They're enjoying their football, playing some good stuff, scoring goals and not letting many in. What happens outside that is a bonus. We've spent too long putting them under pressure to win whilst they've been losing. Just enjoy it
i dont think its contriversial, its true actually and it shows just why we should feel a little bit frustrated tonight. this shows what we could have done this season, but thats gone now and its all about next season now as we should finish mid table at least.
We need to get 2 wins and a draw better than Millwall...less for the other teams...some massive six pointers coming up now...at the right end of the table.
I've explained below why I don't think it's possible. Lots of things are mathematically possible but they rarely happen. Berk. The thread title failed to put you off then.
On 1st December – 7 games ago – we were 15 points off the playoffs. On 26th Jan – 7 games on - we are 7 points off the playoffs. We've made up 8 points in 7 games. We have 7 more points to make up in 19 games. Yet we have NO chance???
I agree that LJ has wasted nearly half a season but if we can get Hammill back and we can carry on as we are then I think the playoffs could just be within our reach. Its crazy when you think about it but this league is so poor there is no reason why we can't make up seven points.
If we'd got eight points from those eight defeats (perfectly do-able when it's a 'normal' season, with Fleetwood and Crewe at home amongst the fixtures) we'd be in the play-offs now. ******* hell.
If it were the Championship I'd say not, but in fairness there's some plum average teams who are capable of not winning games against lower opposition. By the same token we could do exactly the same. Let's see where we are by the time Hammill, White and possibly Mawson return.
A year on and we are still equidistant from the play offs and from the drop zone. The more things change the more the stay the same.
No it was your assertion of there being NO chance. Which is of course a ridiculous thing to assert. But don't let that stop you being abusive too. Perhaps your warning should have been "Factually Incorrect Post"
