I'm inclined to think so. He has the chance of a Wembley appearance - at least until next Thursday (i.e. after the window closes).
Yorkshire Post says Leeds' bid of 300K "rejected out of hand". Says we are thought to value him in excess of 1M.
As I said back in November..there are clubs (plural) interested in winnall. So expect more and increased offers. We here a lot of noise about how things have changed in regard to this kind of activity let's see if there's any substance to their words. As stated by others on here...it really will set the tone for us as a club. Is we usually soil ourselves and accept the second bid however poor it is!
Only 25 year old, 18months left on his contract. He on target for 20 goals this season. Was on track to bag 20 last term before injury hit. Season before won golden boot in L2 with 23 goals. So he is proving consistently that he is a 20 goal a season man. What every club wants. Will clubs be interested? Hell yeah Do we need to sell? No Every player has a value but what is Super Sam worth? He won golden boot in L2 prior to signing for us. He is our top scorer, 3rd in L1 goal table and has consistently scored goals at this level. He has good movement, works hard for the team and can score a variety of goals. In comparison to other recent player sales. Connor Washington was sold for £2.8m. Sam has a better goal record than him and has shown consistency in his goalscoring. He is a vital player, fans favourite, and we a just 1 game away from a potential cash windfall Wembley appearance worth a reported £700k. So would I take a million, no chance! £2m, hard to say no but we may as well forget Wembley JPT. No ambition. £3m in modern day terms I pitch him there. In other words we need to retain him at all costs. In answer the value vs Stones argument? If Stones is sold his value will sky rocket. Strikers generally cost much more than defenders, especially proven goalscorers. We are 3years on so add some inflation. Now I feel we would have held out for higher initial fee for Stones probably £3m mark.
Everyone wants a 20 goal per season man. We have one....to get another will cost£££££. We may have a history of selling very cheap (which other clubs know) but others ie peterboro ....and virtually everyone else get good money. If winnalls agent decides to try engineer him a move...there will be little we can do but we as r market value for a 20 a season man
I thought his contract was up in the summer. If he still has 18 months left, then we are in the boss position to hold out for a minimum £2 million. Argument sorted.
Well yes we are...............but as I sais previously this is so much more than just another of our players who then goes cheaply. This is about the new management team (Mansford) paying a lot of lip service regarding transfer deals "its not going to happen on my watch" blah blah blah. Actually doing what you are talking about......... 1. He is contracted for another 12/18 months 2. We don't need to sell 3. If we want a replacement like for like....other clubs will want and get so much more than the "worth" of their player To conclude, we don't need to sell and a replacement would be more costly.
The club could come out with "he said he wasn't going to play again so we had to accept the offer" Hammill, McIndoe, Vaz Te..... All for peanuts.
Yea the agents usually are very good at engineering deals like that aren't they. I'm told Butterfield did a similar thing at Huddersfield to get his move to Derby (don't believe it myself) but it happens all the time.
he's not going anywhere this season. i'd be astonished if he did. it would be absolute suicide from the Club, and they know this. that's why they rejected the offer. guaranteed goals and any slim chance of top 6 push out of the window, back to square one with the fans, no chance of a replacement within the transfer window. it's not gonna happen.
Nobody seems to have mentioned the possibility that he might have a release clause in his contract. If not then £2.5m would be my minimum price.
