And he would have been a much better striker for us. Him and Sam would rip this league up in a 4-4-2 with the service of Hammill, Watkins etc. Michael never really got a chance and when he did get a rare opportunity he was instructed to drift about on his own with absolutely no service at all. When he came here he told Rob Staton that he prefers playing with a strike partner. The likes of Isgrove are showing their quality since changing tactics and it is a shame that Smith didn't have the same opportunity.

It baffles me how people can be so harsh on a player that was totally misused. He was screwed over more than S.Jackson who gets no stick for some bizarre reason.

Please elaborate. Imagine what we'd think of Winnall if all we saw was him up top on his own with no service.

His touch was terrible, he won very little in the air for a big lad and the ball bounced off him and out of play more often than not.

However he barely had a chance to prove he could finish chances, as he was never provided with any. I wasn't bothered when he left but I do think you've got a point.

he was toss. almost as bad as connor wilkinson.

he brought smith in because of the attachment to swindon and the goals he scored. which was understandable. then he was gash for us and was rightly released. replaced by an under-21 who never kicked a ball in league football, and has already done more than smith did in his entire spell.

lee johnson 100% right. bravo lee.

I beleive Watkins is much a better player and causes more of a threat up top with winnall than out wide. Far better partner for Winnall than Smith would have been.

He offered nothing. No pace, no skill, he couldn't control the ball, he couldn't head the ball, he was soft as ****. He played up front with Winnall at Scunny and it was one of the weakest individual performances I've seen.

Smith is 4 or 5 leagues above his level, awful player, not built like a footballer, first touch like an elephant, only scored the amount he did last season because Swindon were an ultra attacking side with some quality players putting it on a plate for him.

Fletcher is a much better player already.

Was Winnall banging them in playing up top on his own? No, nowhere near how he is now. So how could you expect Smith to be banging them in when he wasnt even getting starts? He was given no chance.

I think anyone with half a brain cell could see theyd be a perfect fit. He scored 18 in this league last season, he's hardly a bad player is he?

    Redz Director clueless!!

The difference between Smith and Jackson was that, even when we were playing poor, and playing that awful 1 striker tactic, Jackson still looked half decent; Smith looked dreadful.

We'll never know whether he would have played better in a 442. Well he probably would have but there's no telling that he would have made a massive impact in the way our current front 2 have since being put in that formation.

It's time to move on and let it go.

Smith came on yesterday and caused us problems. Held the ball up very well and almost assisted a Swindon equalizer. Obviously he was better with Obika running off him.
