I've been trying to avoid posting on a match day but my mind is all over the place and I'm not making good decisions right now so tough. I've just signed up to volunteer for an online library that is a charity which proof reads books for visually impaired people which I'm quite excited about as I love reading, I'll still be helping people and it will be useful for pursuing librarianship right? (I know sod's law says I will have made an error or ten in this post which I should have caught but right now I couldn't care less). However, as there aren't exactly loads of library jobs floating around, what else could I do to make some dosh? I was going to ask for serious suggestions only but actually I think non-serious might make me chuckle so fire away with any old rubbish!
What about designing, manufacturing and selling classroom teaching aids, learning packs, teaching software etc? You've often put posts on here about designing things for your classes, to stimulate your kids to earn more by making their classes interesting and not just dull learning. You seem to have a creative knack for that sort of thing. You've got loads of background experience to help you, and you must have many contacts and know the system. Your husband is still working, so maybe he could support you while you get going? You're young and if things go wrong you can always go back into teaching (although you will probably think "perish the thought" at the moment). I did a similar thing, many years ago (although nothing to do with teaching), and never looked back. The comment from a friend which finally made up my mind was "If you don't give it a try, you'll never know what would have happened if you did".
An online company that is extremely well known and heavily utilised in teaching circles (and probably something people on here with no teaching background have never heard of) is advertising for qualified teachers to proof read the content before it is submitted. It has a mixture of free and paid for content that includes displays, worksheets, PowerPoints etc. It is based in Sheffield so we would need to relocate slightly but we are only renting anyway so that wouldn't be a major problem. It would also put me closer to Barnsley
That sounds like a start, although I'm biased towards people working for themselves. However, I suspect the educational market is a bit of a "closed shop" and you may have difficulty getting accepted as a "no-name" (no disrespect intended) start up. Wot eva u do, I wish u gud luk, and if u neede any help with prof reeding, plese PM me.
Funny story but I considered being an archaeologist for a time until I realised how much work is done out-of-doors and my Raynaud's just wouldn't allow it (and drawing - I can't draw to save my life!). I do have a passion for history though and working in a museum would be something I think I would enjoy.
I have a friend who works with kids taken out of the education system for one reason or another. His agency are looking for people to work one to one with kids in the area
I'm really small & weedy, so you'd have to do all the hard work whilst I topped up the suntan on my bald head!
Pole dancing is HARD. My mates arranged a lesson for us on my hen do and none of us could move the next day and we were covered in bruises!
I may go down that route eventually but I need a break from teaching (even one to one) at the moment.
Weston Park Museum in Sheffield was advertising for someone to run their tours for schools / group visitors.
