I really hope he is not back at Burnley this morning because yesterday was his last scheduled game for us.

He is almost as vital to us at the back as SSW is up front. Please get him signed up permanently or at least to the end of the season Mr Mansford :)

It was just an extension until the end of January.

Long has made a big difference once match fit. It would be great for him to stay a bit longer but with Burnley only extending the loan by 8 days last time I'm not sure how likely that is.

Unless it was a loan extension while the two clubs and the player thrash out a permanent deal. That's a complete guess and could be well wide of the mark, we may be nowhere near able to afford him, it's just that eight days does seem a very short and very odd extension to a loan. You'd think, if we were simply extending the loan, we would have done it for another month with Burnley insisting on a 24 hour recall if they felt they might need him back. But, as I said, just speculation.

Seemed strange to me and pretty much what I thought at the time so here's hoping.

I think it was something to do with it being an emergency loan and they can only last a certain amount of days. This is by no means 100% but im sure that i read somewhere that the extension took him to that amount.

Think isgrove was something similar which gave them time to then extend it till EOS

He may want to keep his options open in case someone comes in with a permanent deal.

I thought in the transfer window you could just sign people on loan not emergency loan though I know next to nowt about it to be fair.

An emergency loan (is a loan outside the transfer window) can be for a minimum of 28 days and a maximum of 93 days meaning in the best case scenario we could loan him till 16th Feb

    That's absolutley spot on.

I have probably taken leave of all my senses right now, but maybe we could be preparing a last min bid for him on a permanent deal?!

Or is it a defo no goer as Burnley want to keep him/we can't afford the fee or his wages?

Genuinely don't know but he would be a fine addition to the squad IMO.

Personally I feel the short extension was in Burnleys part & all to do with numbers...................
They've been chasing the lad from Brentford all window so didn't want to lose Long for rest of season & not getting there own bit of business over the line. Which would've left, them a player short for defensive cover

Do you know if they've signed this lad from Brentford then? That could be the key for us!

He's on about Tarkowski from Brentford. He flat out refused to play for them the other day when Brentford rejected a few bids from Burnley. Him and Michael Keane at the back and they're in the Prem for me. Two very good defenders.
