Yeah. Funny that innit. Almost like he sprang into action, as soon as there was talk of a bigger move. I thought it was a big loss at the time, but the last 6 games have proved me wrong. I'd rather he was still with us like.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
To summarise the summary, we've dug ourselves out of a hole signing Hammill which has, in turn, given everyone a lift & a little more confidence which has seen us be transformed (along with what's obviously lots of hard graft). I imagine we've also spent a lot of time speaking to players for this Summer too (or at least I hope we have) to give ourselves a head start so we don't repeat the same mistakes again.
Why is he unspectacular he's playing the way he's told to play he is an attacking midfield player doing a holding role.
Believe me, you don't. I really wish I hadn't. If we only remember the last two games Pearson played for us, we've lost a brilliant player. There were a few more too of that standard over the time he was with us. But there's no reason to believe he would have kept up that high standard. When he's put in such performances in the past it has been followed by half a dozen games when he's hardly done a thing. That's not because he's crap, it's because he's young, inexperienced and inconsistent. Brownhill has played four games and hasn't put a foot wrong. We've only conceded one goal in that time, scored 11 and kept three clean sheets having conceded at least one goal in each of the previous 20 games. Not all that is down to Brownhill, obviously, but we never got anywhere near the same consistency from Ben Pearson. Pearson may go on to be the better player in the long run, but right now he's not what we needed.
Wish I was tech savvy enough to multi-quote. Agree to disagree on this one. One reason being that I'm known to be a Ben Pearson fan anyway and when he was deemed to have had a poor game on here, he was picking up points in the London Tykes Man of the Match votes. Secondly, for all the reasons you mentioned in your initial reply to the OP, we're a far better side than we were in December, and we started to kick on in those last two games before he left. We didn't ge the consistency from Pearson no, but we weren't getting it from anywhere at that point. Truth is we'll never know. But I'd have loved Ben Pearson to have stayed at Oakwell.
Proof when I believed we needed to bring in experience this window that I'm not as clever or knowledgeable on football as I like to think I am. But it won't stop me from spouting more rubbish in the future!
Agree with every word. Especially about Pearson. It genuinely shocked me how many people really rated him & felt he was worth loads more than the 100k Preston paid for him. Much prefer Brownhill who plays the quick, early ball out wide for our wingers & Watkins to get at teams
This. I think we don't trust the club to handle sales well and maximise incoming transfer fees and given the nature of the last two summers, which have been total and complete unmitigated disasters I think people were just waiting for winnall to go for 400k and when only some underwhelming activity took place that felt like a success compared to how it could have gone.
I think this is interesting - we've almost come to expect the worst when it comes to recruitment recently so now we've done not **** business it's held up as as success. I say we've done not **** business, we've still in essence filled our squad with loans & contracts until the end of the season with some lads for the youth team. I just hope that we don't absolutely have to sign 10 players in the Summer because if so we're almost back to square one.
Trouble is it's a real financial balancing act...do we sign good permanents (who may not turn out to be so good..we've had more than our fair share of those over the years) who may then look expensive when League 1 fair play rules apply, or do we fetch loans in who are (possibly) more expensive in the short term, but can be taken off the books at short notice. The most important thing is for the right players to be signed.
its going to mean another huge recruitment drive again for the manager in the pre-season, and we dont even know yet if johnson is staying or not. if any of these new players manage to hit the ground runnng if or when they do get some first team action, then they will have proved to be good deals. if they end up just warming the bench though and getting loaned out again a few months into the new season, well thats another thing altogether. it might sound odd, but the none business we did yesterday regarding winnall especially, was some of the best business weve done in years.
Taking all the above into account if we do change manager then the new guy will highlight the playing staff he wants, as does everyone who takes the hot seat What will also possibley come into effect should stones be sold this summer will be the windfall from that deal. Thus it makes sense that the players brought in at the moment are on short term contracts with the option of extending at a later date...maybe the players are playing for long term contracts thus they are giving 110% at the moment ...which can only benefit the club. The problem the club have in my opinion is that far too often they change direction and dont stick to what they say is about to take or is taking place hence the criticism they get is warranted at times. Having read the transfer policy post by the club then i can fully appreciate their thinking and logic in the present day climate and for once applaud their approach, along with the openness of the subject. If this openness took place more often then i for one feel that most of the criticism that they receive would be minimal and the personal attacks on certain individuals, involved with the club would cease.
