    Should have tried a different line as with other punters IMO ,wasted 10 mins of the programme and nobody k ows what he's said.

    In their defence, they didn't plan on getting Phipps on; from what I can gather they just put it out there and he called in. Chances are that he was using hands free in his car, which gives shocking reception. I should know, I occasionally call in when I'm driving back from our games.

    I don't think he was driving, it didn't sound like it. If I was a cynic I'd say he was mumbling and covering the handset to mask what he was saying. He's asked some difficult questions and he can claim he answered them all honestly even if nobody could understand a word he said. Of course it could have just been a very bad line

    It made me laugh too - the Bletchley Park comment and the interview transcript were both comedy gold.
