Don't you think he owes the board a bit of loyalty then?

He should show loyalty to the board that showed loyalty to him. Those of us who wanted him sacked I agree he's no loyalty to us.

I'm guessing that'd depend on whether he thinks he'll be listened to in the summer when he says we need some experience with the youth. If not he might think he'd be walking impeded on a highwire and take the flack for it. Again.

Aside for the past career connection, I imagine the prospect of Lee Johnson taking over at Bristol is as baffling for their fans as it was for us when he took over here. Hardly anyone wanted him or understood why we were after him. Even if he is on a great run, the fact remains we are 12th in February in a league we should be around the top six in.

... not that I want him to leave as he's doing well right now and is a nice bloke. Just that football is mad.

I would imagine, when he saw the squad he had to work with come kick off in August, he though, "What the ******* hell have I done here!?" However, since then we've brought Hammill in, we've also got White until the end of the season, we got Long in on loan, and we've brought in some good young players on loan like Isgrove, Fletcher and Toney. All players of a calibre that I think he would have struggled to get at Oldham. He seems to relish working with such players.

That in itself won't make him stay. But the fact that, over the last couple of months, the board have proved themselves capable of bringing in good players certainly won't have hurt. The possibility of getting more good players this summer will give him food for thought. As will the opportunity we now have to play at Wembley and make the play-offs. Bristol City on the other hand have nothing but a relegation fight to look forward to. There is a real chance the two clubs could swap leagues at the end of the season. Does he want a cup win and a promotion on his CV or a relegation? None of that means he won't go. If Bristol City were midtable, I doubt he'd think twice, but they're not, they're struggling while we are flying. If he is offered the job, he'll have a lot to think about. Having said all that, he may not even be in Bristol City's thoughts.

If LJ was offered the job and a good pay package would he go? Speaking to a couple of non reds today who said he would be made not to...

But vice versa I think he would be mad to leave us...

Ok he has history and fond memories as a player at Bristol City... Then there is the lure of the championship... financially he would be better off and he would have opportunity to test himself against at the next level... But in my opinion that would be short-termisum... Lets face it Bristol City are in a relegation dog fight, low on confidence and struggling for goals... he will be limited to loans and free transfers having missed transfer window... if he doesn't get instant results and keep them in the championship would the board at Bristol City retain his services for the League 1 campaign? would LJ want to risk having a relegation on his CV? and does he want to start rebuilding a team all over again... Even if Bristol City survive this year, the board have shown that they are quick to pull the trigger and change manager... If he leaves then more fool him, a huge risk that could cost him, based on financial gain sentimental values... Look at Dean Saunders since leaving Donny for the dizzy heights... even players, LJ should ask Adam Hammill if the grass is greener!

LJ has worked hard to lay his foundation at Oakwell... and the board and fans have stayed loyal despite a poor start to the campaign... The team are now starting to gel and pick up results and if we continue this good run of form the team will be fighting for top 6 finish and possible promotion via the play offs... and then their is the added bonus of the JPT, which if we are successful tomorrow LJ will get the lead his team out at Wembley Stadium... And if we don't make it to Wembley or the playoffs his job will be safe...

I can't argue with any of that. But I do think the principle of loyalty from managers being cited is problematic when they work in such a perilous job, the success at which is hugely dependent on often blameless others, and they are one bad run from finding themselves unemployable. They might feel loyal to individuals and the fans but if they don't think the culture exists for them to succeed then they'd be pretty brave to stay. Hopefully our optimism for the summer is shared by LJ.

I can never understand why sacked managers rush in to other jobs when two failures in a row is usually terminal to a career.

He walked out on Oldham, I don't see why he'd not leave us. Quite honestly I think a lot of people were very patient with him, I don't think it was unfair for people to blame the manager for the club being the bottom of the league. There is simply no way that ever should have happened. If he goes he goes, we'll move on, and make a profit on a manager for once.

I agree with you about loyalty. However, Johnson must know he was lucky to keep his job after such a terrible run earlier this season. I thought at the time it would have been wrong to sack him, but that's exactly what the vast majority of chairmen would have done. Ours didn't. The board stuck by him. When people offer that kind of support, it can't help but engender some loyalty. It's difficult to walk away from people who believe in you, in those that have backed you, and taken flak for doing so, even in a cut-throat business like football. We'll see I suppose, although I personally doubt Johnson is even in the running. If he gets us in to the play-offs by season end and wins the JPT it will be a different matter, he'll be hot property, and will probably feel he has repaid the support, but at the moment he hasn't really done anything. It's still possible we could finish the season in the bottom half having underachieved for the size of our budget.

Wo wo wo, hold up a minute. Yeh he's turned a corner and yeh we've been on a good run but lets be brutally honest here, he has a top 6 budget and we are 12th, over mid way through the season. If he goes, that'll be superb from my point of view.
