In normal circumstances, if a young, ambitious manager (or player) gets an offer from a "better" club then I'm one of the first to wish them well, that's football however frustrating it is for the "small" club. However, this is different. After the board stood by him through those consecutive defeats, the worst run in my lifetime, just a couple of months ago, if he now leaves I will be appalled. In fact, that he even wants to talk to them speaks volumes, it's already a huge kick in the teeth. I'm so gutted, maybe I'm naive in wanting to believe folk are better than that.
More information required. We don't know what's really behind that statement. Have they issued it because they're pi$$ed off that Johnson wants to leave? Or is that genuinely their view and they see Johnson as just a very small, very replaceable cog? We don't know the conversations that are happening between Johnson and the Board. We're all speculating. either way though, that statement remains absolute $hit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It was inevitable once Bristol made their move. He's another run away from the sack here, he's not exactly pulled any trees up consistently and I think given the situation, and its a massive opportunity that he might never get again. Whether we like it or not, Bristol City are a far bigger team than us with money to burn, added to the fact that he used to play for them, and his old man was the boss etc, its a no brainer. I'm more shocked that Bristol think he's good enough for them, when in reality his CV is atrocious. He's got a boom or bust record... If you look at his history at Oldham and ours, its win 5, lose 6, win 5 lose 8 and so on. He's a huge gamble for them, massive in fact. You've got to remember we've one of the biggest budgets in this division and overall we've underachieved this season, I know this last few weeks have been great but before that the team, the club, the atmosphere was on its arse. The club weren't dishing out statements to say the structure is awesome, and we are on to something with this amazing set up, back then.
I kind of agree. If he had have got the boot after the altrincham debacle, which 90% of managers would have on the back of 8 striaght league defeats, he wouldnt have got a job managing the dog and duck second eleven. We stuck by him and gave him a chance to redeem himself (which he has) and now hes buggering off. Dont give me this barm about us all wanting him gone and now we dont business, LJ was doing terribley before christmas and in all honesty deserved the sack, do i desperatley want him to stay....not desperatley but I definatley find it a **** state of affairs that he just buggers off at the first offer after the loyalty shown to him. remember loyalty works both ways........dunt it....
I'd have to disagree with far bigger. Slightly bigger at present and much richer I'd say is more accurate.
The board didn't stick with him through loyalty. They stuck with him because (belatedly) they've realised that sacking managers at the drop of the hat doesn't work.
If it hadn't been for the support the club showed him after, and during, that awful run, I'd swallow him moving on, even if I don't want him to go. But in any walk of life, if someone goes against the flow to defend/protect/support you, whether you are a postman, builder, lawyer or just a bloke in the pub, the decent thing to do is respect and repay that loyalty, I don't care who you are. I'm getting angrier by the minute, after such a **** few years of relegation and inconsistency, to finally have that feel-good factor back at the club, only for this to happen is abysmal.
I disagree mate, in reality they are much bigger, they were offering 9m for players at the beginning of the season and have 15k average attendance. Thats not say we can't average that again someday, but at this point City are a far more attractive proposition than we are.
For the majority of people employed in the game now it is a career the only loyal people tend to be the fans.
We've survived bigger upsets than this, he's leaving us in a good position, I'll wish him well and move on,
I'm bitterly disappointed with him, for the reasons you've given. Perhaps that says more about me, though, usually thinking the best of people. However, I'm a Barnsley fan. We're at Wembley in a couple of months and in the mix for a Play Off place. If Lee Johnson moves on, I'd like to think our current position would make us an attractive proposition for any potential Head Coach.
Tbf it was on the cards. The bookies obviously knew summat, despite what Johnson was saying publicly. I'm more pi$$ed that we should have been all been buzzing about Wembley, and Sunday's match, and player/manager of the month. all that. Instead it lasted about 3 hours and everyone's squabbling again. That statement has also really wound me up. What a load of b0llocks that is. From start to finish.
Two things that sticking with him through that spell will have helped, firstly in making his decision he will be more likely to stay and secondly, (and perhaps more importantly) if he does go we will be a far better proposition in attracting a new manager
Good luck to him- if he goes. Had to work hard to earn the respect of most people and here and I for one won't lose any for him if he goes. Bring on the rest of the season and bring on Wembley.
My feelings exactly. I want him to stay, I like what I've seen since Christmas and I think we've got momentum. I can understand why he's interested. Bigger club, great potential and it's his club, he's got an affinity with them. Football is a fickle game, our season could fizzle out, have a poor start next season and he's done. That said, I'd like him to stay. For our next head coach I'd like us to go for someone young, dynamic and a passion for attacking pacy football.
