I think some have got way too carried away by our recent form. When Danny Wilson was fired we were seven points off the play offs. One year later we are five points off the play offs. Johnson hasn't turned us around, he's got a top six budget with a top six attendance to 12th. He's hardly worked miracles. Let's also not forget that under his tenure we went on our worst run since 1953 and got booted out of the cup by Altrincham. The JPT success of course has been enjoyable. Let's also not forget that up until serious pressure from the fans (he reads the message boards remember. Hi Lee!), he was playing 4-5-1 with Winnall on the wing. I still maintain that Adam Hammill is the main reason he's not out of a job. Of course Johnson wasn't the only one to blame for the poor run and I doubt every signing was strictly his decision, but there'd be absolutely no emotion on my part if he left to go to Bristol. We've had an amazing six weeks and I applaud him for that. I hope he stays as we have a chance of silverware and the play-offs. That'd be difficult for a new manager. There's an equal chance that we will now go on a bad run, if Johnson's managerial career is true to form. His entire year can be summed up as bang average. Let's not forget we are a club used to being in the Championship. Why some are fawning over someone who was bang average at Oldham and now bang average at Barnsley is beyond me...
7 points off the play offs under Wilson and we hadn't won away scince November. Lee Johnson is a young manager still learning look at oldham now scince he left he had them over achieving on a tiny budget at one point he had them in the play offs. I'd much rather him stay and finish the job he started but if he goes I think we have a good squad still and will still do well.
It's nothing near bang average to get to Wembley. It's once in a lifetime for some. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
I'm with the original poster. Is mid table in the 3rd division what we class as successful? We really have been starved of success. Two good runs two bad. A young manager learning his trade making mistakes like the bizzare Winnall as a winger idea. If he stays he stays if he goes he goes. Thus far other than good self publicity LJ has achieved pretty much nothing. If him going meant we got compensation that we could convince Hammill to stay and be happy with I'd say we had the better of the deal. A trip to Wembley is great. I was as happy as anyone in the cold at Fleetwood. But if you cant see that being mid table is underperforming to balance against this then there's nowt so queer as folks. Bang average is bang on.
Don't think BCFC fans are too impressed. http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/BRISTO...on-right-man/story-28679372-detail/story.html
You bang on about Wilson been so good though in previous threads but when he was sacked we hadn't won away scince November mid table with a bigger budget than what Lee Jay had so that makes him below average.
I didn't want Wilson as manager second time round. I thought at the time it was a mistake. I thought his second spell was average working under difficult circumstances. Last season not too long before kick off we had about 6 professionals. Based on this I thought it was ill judged to treat a club legend shabbily and not give him the time to change things. We had also won 4 out of 5 at home. The reasons for the sacking were spurious and still do. Our best players other than Hammill were signed by him. Who that Johnson has signed is as good as Hourihane, Winnall or Scowen? I thought Johnson was a poor choice having seen his Oldham side twice and noting that they were one of the poorer teams I'd seen. His tenure has been average. Don't try and dress it up to suit your agenda. Look at it coldly and dispassionately. Always best not to attribute what you think are someone's views without actually knowing them.

Scowern was signed when Wilson had gone. And he did sign Connor and ssw but he also signed treacy,Lita, reece brown...... his Oldham side who were above us when Wilson was here with a much smaller budget.
No Scowen was signed by Wilson. You are thinking of O'Sullivan. Oldham didn't start the beginning of that season with 6 senior pros. Not sure 2 extra points warranted the cost are you? Alex Ferguson said that a success rate of 30 to 40 percent on transfers was a good one. When we flog Winnall that will more than compensate for the failures. Who that we have signed recently can we say will even cover the wages of Smith or Crowley or Wilkinson?
Good post Matthew, I completely agree. I wanted LJ sacked but there came a point where I thought he'd earned the right to keep his job until the end of the season at least. I don't for one minute understand some of the hysteria I've read on here that would look, to a neutral observer, like we'd just lost the best manager of all time after winning 12 titles on the bounce with a couple of European cups thrown in.
It's the JPT and while I don't mean to demean the status of the competition I'm afraid that in the grand scheme of football it is bang average.
True, but when it's realistically the only competition your able to win by Christmas, then winning it is perhaps above average.
The final is in April. Still your point is valid however if you look at what a club in the lower two divisions could win it is still the least prestigious. 1: The title. 2: Play off final. 3: JPT.
It's hilarious reading comments from the Wilson brigade on here. Danny Wilson never even saw Scowen play. He was signed 100% from statistics. Ben said we've found a lad. Wilson said we'll have him then. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
Again more than paid for by the successes when we flog em in the Summer. It's difficult to recruit experience from nowt. I'm not sure paying Reece Brown off or Bailey would cost us a bomb or Treacy. Not sure we paid anyone else off. lita was on a 1 year contract and Turnbull went to Leeds. Letting Laikovich go was an error as Wallsall have shown.
