Is that true of all managers who move from one club to another?

But if overkill there. He's doing a job. If someone offers him a better one why shouldn't he take it. No one would stop you or me why shoulda football manager be any different.

He's got a point. Cryne broke from rank by giving a 3yr contract. I wonder if he'll go back to rolling deals now. Especially with his exit strategy

Because he's under contract we receive compensation if he chooses to leave. That's what the contract is for, to protect his employment rights and our investment.

I had a contract with my last employer. They invested lots of time and money training me. I was in quite a senior responsible role. I left because I wanted to because I was bored and restless. Didn't even know what I was going to do at the time. Should they have been able to stop me?

He has if you want Johnson to leave for free and not get any compensation. Personally I'd prefer the money.

I think its a big difference between us and a football manager ! Especially one in Johnsons position .
I have never had a job where I was so totally cxrap that I didnt do anything right for two months, if I had been so consistently poor , I would have been sacked.
He , on the other hand was the worst manager in the entire league for that period of time, yet the owner backed him and got him a couple of players in to sort it out. Then the first chance he gets he wants to talk to another club ? It is not the fans he owes anything to , its the owner.
If he goes i will shed no tears about is, but if I was Cryne I would be going round to Johnson`s house with the boys to sort him out ;)

Building a promotion team from scratch that's just been decimated following relegation and huge cut in wage bill is completely different to a short term fix to stave off relegation, particularly when the team you already have bossed the league below without even breaking sweat.

That said, if LJ does go, I hope they go down and we go up. It'll serve a lesson to those who jump at the first chance of moving on.

More luck than judgment that though, I'd say. A few weeks earlier and it would have cost him a small fortune to get out of

It's not luck. We insert a clause in to the contract that states if our manager is poached by another club we will be adequately compensated. It's the law of this land that employees are given a contract, so we insert another clause that states how much we will compensate the manager if we choose to dismiss him, so we're not held to pay up all his remaining contract. It's sound financial sense.

Your contract with the employer is indefinite. But with a notice period from either side.

Football contracts are different. No notice period and a set number of years with other triggers to leave if built in etc.

    Apples and oranges.

    Non comparable.

Although I suspect that will change in future when the next bosman comes along

That's not my point. I obviously made it badly! I get the compo and agree on that. My point was about the sensibility of offering a 3yr contract. It's obviously right we get compo, but a few weeks sooner and it would have cost us. So if we do well the manager fcuks off at the first chance, and if we don't it costs us money. What's the point? With our track record of losing managers, I think I'd be going back to rolling contracts for now..
