I dont want to sound rude and i know we are doing well at the moment but what has Heckingbottom done to catapult himself to the front of the queue. I might have missed something what he has achieved. Has he done much coaching or managing previously. Im not saying hes not up to the job i would just like someone with maybe more knowledge to emphasise why hes good as everyone on this forum seems keen on him to take over which speaks volumes. Hes obviously got something im not aware off....Can someone kindly explain

It's all about continuation. Knows the players and the club. Bringing a new manager in with different ideas is not what we need just now.

I believe he's been at the club since 2011 in a coaching capacity. He began his time here as an under 18s coach, then took charge of the under 21s and then became senior development coach, working with both the under 21s and the first team. So, he's got 5 years experience as a coach at the club and he's clearly impressed in that role as he's continually been promoted to become one of our top coaches. He's been part of the team that has seen us undefeated in the last 9 games including an unprecedented (in my life time anyway) 7 league victories on the spin. We've actually only lost 3 games since 7 November. He's a Barnsley lad with over 400 senior appearances to his name at all levels from non-league to Championship, he's been there, seen it, done it, he's passionate about the club, he's developing a great reputation as a coach, he's got no failures on his CV and he offers us continuity in what is the best run of form I've ever known from our club.

    Will that do?

He has the necessary experience. Ie he knows our strengths and weaknesses.

At the end of the day a month ago wed written this season off so we've nothing to lose anyway

Your answer is Danny Wilson. Took over after Anderson went to Boro. No further through the coaching manual than Hecky, possibly less. I think that one worked out okay.

5 points off the play-offs. We have everything to play for.

He's got a hell of a lot more coaching experience than Johnson had when he came.

I'm not absolutely desperate for Heckingbottom to take over - but I would not want an 'experienced, older head' as manager. For experienced and older, read expensive and unprepared to not have control of everything so we'd have to tear up the structure.

The club like the structure, to be fair it's looking ok at getting results at the moment, it needs someone young and hungry to head it. Someone without necessarily a stack of first team managerial experience but with the necessary nous and desire.

Hecky would therefore be as good a bet as anyone else I would think. There seems little point taking a punt on somebody outside of the club, so why not back your own horse?

Paul is also a very bright lad. If he had not followed a career in football, he was and is, good University material.

Someone might correct me here (please do), but is there anything to be taken from the fact that since Hecky took on JUST First Team Coach duties (i.e. since Hassell joined as U21 coach) we've gone on this amazing run?

I know it isn't as simple as that. But as Hecky's involvement and focus shifted to just the first team, we've not lost.

Plus all the reasons mentioned above.

Of course. That's the benefits of a Royston Comprehensive school education. Being surrounded by other geniuses will do that for you.

I suppose it all depends on how much pressure comes from above for him to do this and that and to toe the party line.
If he and Wright are left to get on with it then it should be fine. Too much interference will damage his confidence.
At the moment nothing is broken so there's nothing to fix.
