Wonder how long before they're labelled "the enemy within", eh? Plus ca change and all that. True colours.
Idiot Boy Hunt may feel he's won. When August comes and he has no specialism trainees he'll be lucky if he can run a five day NHS.
Theyre right though that the NHS needs to go fully 7 days. At the moment people die because emergency care isn't adequate at weekends
The people to blame that we haven't got a fit for purpose NHS is the electorate, most of it. It's a problem that's easily fixed. Increase taxation to provide more funding. The trouble is that any party who came out and suggested it would be committing electoral suicide. We all want a top rate NHS, Police force, education system it's just that most people don't actually want to pay for it.
As far as I understand it we currently have 7 day a week 365 days a year health service. To improve the quality of care would involve increasing the density of the staff available meaning that more money wild have to be allocated to do this. Instead the government has gone gone spreading already thin resources even thinner. This will probably make the situation worse and decrease patient safety.
But you are better off being an inpatient on a Sunday than you are on a Wednesday , more inpatients die on Wednesdays than Sunday's , it follows in Hunt logic then that we need more Junior doctors on less acute wards in the week
Yes maybe - but to have all services available seven days - I.e increase services, they also need to increase the resources, increase staff numbers, inject more money. Not just stretch the existing resource and **** them over. It just ends up making the existing system worse - but spread over seven days. And the 11% pay increase crap - that's spun more than fine yarn. It would be a real terms pay decrease for nearly all of the junior doctors. Maximum 72 hours? Thanks. 'Don't worry, you are dying of a hellish condition but here's young dr smith, he's only done 69 hours this week. Fresh as a daisy, he'll sort you out. When he wakes up.' Radical idea - why not actually give incentives to the most gifted youngsters from all sections of society to become the next doctors, rather than alienate the profession, making it about as tempting as a dog sh*t sandwich? Might have a few less entrants to the 'city' making corrupt billions in the financial sector. No that wouldn't work, nobody to finance the Tory gravy train then. Never has the rhyming slang for Hunt ever been more appropriate.
He's been genuinely inept and completely out of his depth in every govt position he's held. He must have summat on Cameron to keep getting these jobs - in any other line of work he'd have had multiple warnings and been sacked for poor performance by now. Maybe he's got some post-coital polaroids of the pig. Oink!
We need more Universities doing medical courses. A lot of youngsters are interested in the profession, have the right 'A' Levels, but can't get a place. I also think charges should be made for people that get drunk out of their skulls and go to A&E for what is after all, self inflicted damage.
Hunt's proposals aren't about emergency care. He wants to do elective surgery (i.e. the routine ops scheduled Monday-Friday) at weekends. You'll find that for emergency surgery the main operating theatres are staffed and ready to go at weekends and through the night, A&E is also 24/7.
No they don’t, that’s skewing the statistics. They’ve taken the statistic that states there is a higher proportion of deaths from surgeries at weekends, without looking at underlying reasons. That being that routine operations are all done Mon-Fri, the only operations done at weekends are emergency operations when the nature of it means there is more risk. What they should do is count the death rates in emergency operations only and they’d find they are comparable at weekends to during the week.
Also its not as simple as just paying more into the system..............coz after a few years or months the fat cat would be sponging off more incentives, nicer company cars, better parking spot etc etc. Or allocating the money elsewhere. How do we know our tax dollar (err pound) would be allocated to the NHS? Look at the state pension (OAP) they faff about with it nearly every other year (extending the years to getting it......... adding 5 tears sorry years to qualifying to getting it)...the actual logistics........... is. No one has ever set up a pot for the retired, they rely on our national insurance contributions to pay for it. The Nhs is IMHO is a fantastic organisation, very badly run. The doctors and nurses deserve better work conditions ..........not worse.
Letter in the Telegraph reports a doctor requesting a meeting with the above said. Reply " he cant see you this month". Can he see me at the weekend ? Reply NO. he doesn't work after Friday.
Honestly can't see why they can't settle this by simple mediation, its not as complicated as other cases that have been. They can't keep going on strike though, genuinely fell for the poor folk who have waited months for an appointment, some with very real worries only to see it cancelled on the day of a strike
There was a settlement on the table with all parties happy. Jeremy Hunt refused it as a resolution is not what he wants. It's the way to undermine the NHS and privatise it further.
The stats they quoted that gave the impression that more people died at the weekends were pretty much lies.
If you have 20 junior doctors on a rota. You can put some on the weekend rota, but then that would leave the mid week rota short. Anyone who has had to deal with manpower will understand that some will work longer hours for the money, to make up for the shortage.People on lower wages will need to do this to get a Normal wage. The downside is that long hours lead to fatigue and mistakes. These doctors are already doing some 12 hour shifts. Why are they taking the Brunt of Hunts strategy. What about the top consultants who do not need the money and are not working at weekends. Where do the upper staff come into this. These juniors are the guinea pigs for the start of the Tory destruction of the NHS. Have a NHS tax on everyone, I think we would all chip in to it.
