Williams straight in. Pity White is injured as I would have dropped Bree for Williams. Sent from my iPhone
When I was coming home yesterday, I was thinking that we should bring both Williams and Smith in for White and Bree, because I think Bree is making a lot of errors at the minute. But now I've slept on it, I think it's better to leave Bree in the team whilst we're winning games to see if he can regain that confidence he seems to have lost a little of. If he's making the errors whilst we're winning (Gillingham aside), then he's only going to improve in the long run. Sent from my I-Oven using the internets
Bree hasn't been at his best last few games. Yesterday he wasn't too bad given he was up against a quality winger and handled him defensively ok. Got forward ok too but can be a bit edgy. However if we are to truly develop players we need to give them a run, back them and forgive the odd mistake. Don't get me wrong I believe we should manage the game time of young uns but Bree has hardly played all season so a good 15-20 game run is where he and we will learn a lot. We cant expect him to develop in play and mentally by playing him a few games then dropping him first sign of a few mistakes. Smith has had a good run and we saw him develop well. Also most young uns have had loan time. Personally though we need an old head to help our back four if White is out. Long did a great job. We have seen others show similar commitment to our cause in the past on loan such as Rammage and McShane. I guess Bury will be starting line up that we finished with on Sat, but we are now running very light in defence.
We've got so many games coming up in a short space of time, that a number of changes might be made to rest players and keep the team fresh. Could even see maybe Isgrove rested to the bench, Watkins put in Isgrove position and Fletcher brought into the Watkins slot.
We should stick with Williams. Fans are obsessed with changing the team. He came on & did a good job, leave him in there
I think it would be a big mistake and a blow to Williams if he brought Smith straight back in. From what i've seen, not only has Williams filled in, he's been brilliant when he has. No reason at all to change it.
I thought we looked dangerously fragile on the wings on Saturday with Williams being caught out of position a lot and Bree looking in need of a rest. I'd swap Williams onto the right and pick Smith on the left.
Bring George Smith back in for me. It's his natural position and he seems to have impressed massively at Crawley so deserves a chance now he's back. He's the long-term option there for us in my opinion. I would play Williams though and give Bree a breather. A rest does not necessarily mean dropping him. As some have mentioned, we have a lot of games coming up, and Bree has looked jaded the last two and has made a lot of mistakes. He's only 18, his body will still be developing, and there's no harm in taking him out for one game then putting him back in at the weekend. I'd also be tempted to bring Scowen and Fletcher in for Brownhill/Isgrove. We've looked better after those two have come on off the bench in the last two games, and as good as Brownhill is, I think Scowen is a better player, and of course is contracted to us for next season unlike Brownhill. I get the arguments that players should be able to play two games a week, but it's about intensity in my opinion. Why not take advantage of fresh legs who might have more energy in reserve? I can understand if Hecky decides to stick with what has been a winning line up though.
James Bree has made 2 mistakes of any note - at Fleetwood & Gillingham. I do not recall him making a single mistake against Donny. Why change a back four that didn't concede and never looked likely to. I don't get the arguments for change.
Two mistakes leading to goals but there have been others that haven't. He missed a few interceptions on Saturday he ought to have cut out. I just think it's worth looking after younger players who are still learning so that they don't burn out. Not that a change is needed, but if we start picking up injuries because younger lads are playing 3 hours of first team games a week then we'll be in trouble.
