I thought it was a typical Marc Roberts performance. I can't work out if I love the bloke or not. He makes one monumental balls up, the sort that should give a goal away, but then out of nowhere, he'll make a phenomenal tackle to recover the ball. There was one in the first half today where he gave the ball away about 40 yards out, their lad was in on goal, and somehow Robbo put in a clean sliding tackle inside the penalty area and came away with the ball. If he does that all the time, then fair play to him. He did something similar against Everton where he miscontrolled the ball straight to Lukaku, but again put in a quality sliding tackle to prevent what was most certainly a goalscoring opportunity. Could easily become a cult hero. I also thought Williams was good. I really rate the lad and I think he's been very unlucky that his chances have been few and far between. I was last in the UK in August, and in the matches I saw Roberts, I thought he looked excellent. Definitely got the potential to be a Championship centre half if he can cut out the daft errors.
Not a strange game at all. We dominated 1st half and even though they started 2nd half better than us they didnt create a thing. We then got back in to it and controlled it for me. George Williams is the best full back defensively at the club. No way should he be dropped for Smith. Bree had a shaky start to the 2nd half then gaffered Evina big style. Roberts was decent and considering its his 1st start in months he deserves a run of games just like Williams. All in all we should be very happy with things and keep rolling along nicely.
I think it would be sensible perhaps in upcoming games to move Williams back to right back and bring in Smith at left back to give Bree a rest
One thing I've noticed last 2-3 home games despite us being on top for long spells is that we seem to give up chances where we have a set piece around their area and if it breaks down teams break on us on the counter quicker than we get back into shape. It seems something we have had all season but of late has been a worry as it shows up the more we are on top in their final third.
Me too, thought we bossed it all over the pitch Good to see Hecky change things when they put Coppinger in the hole between forwards and midfield. Hecky responded, plugged the gap with Scowen and we controlled it from there on in
Again going to raise myself in the popularity stakes here but there is no way Smith should be anywhere near the team. Not even close defensively to what Williams can offer on his wrong side. Bree doesn't need dropping, he needs coaching. And I've got full faith that Hecky and Tommy will work on his deficiencies. Still hugely disappointed Long has gone. Him and Mawson were the foundation that the attacking football we've been playing is built on. I like Roberts but it was obvious yesterday the players don't trust him like they trusted long.
Totally disagree with your comments about Smith. Williams should be the current left back, in my opinion, simply because he's grabbed the opportunity when presented with it through White's injuries and has done nothing to justify being dropped.
