looks like the big clubs are trying to do away with replays because of fixture congestion. No thought at all to the smaller clubs as per. Also wanting to make it a midweek competition.
The clubs that want these ideas brought in to so called ease fixtures, are the teams that will play mid season lucrative friendlies in the likes of Dubai.
I'm quickly losing interest in the FA Cup, BBC's coverage as been woeful this year which doesn't help.
Another nail in the coffin of a great competition and another nail in the coffin of the smaller clubs fighting to survive....
Replays can be a major financial boost for smaller clubs. I can't see any other reason other than the interests of the elite for removing replays from the FA cup. As Dreamboy says the clubs that are so vocal about fixture congestion are the same clubs flying out to the other side of the world to play in lucrative but shitty meaningless tournaments.
It's all to do with greed. The season used to be shorter, cup games sometimes ran to three or more replays, pitches were heavy, squads were smaller, and players were paid a fraction of what they are now. What have we now? Prima donna players, immoral wages and transfer fees, and in the end people will be driven from watching the game, sickened by the avarice and corruption in the game.
Sorry been on holiday so didn't see that. - All PL ties shown time and time again (Leicester and Tottenham twice ffs) - The 'class of 92' obsession with Salford was OTT - The use of so many pundits in each show and flicking between them all - Same old Alan Shearer et al saying the same stuff - Danny f'cking Murphy on commentary - The draw started with it's own show on a Monday, then it was on the One Show I think? Then I lost track of where and when it's meant to be.
Although losing replays would be bad for smaller clubs' budgets, if it were the same as the JPT and went straight to penalties after 90 minutes then that could increase the chances of smaller clubs beating the big boys. It's great for Chasetown (or whoever) to hold a team at home and get a replay at a big ground, but two-legged ties inevitably favour the bigger clubs (giving them a chance to regroup), and IMO the underdogs would have more of a chance of qualifying if it went straight to penalties.
