I can't cope with this. James Bree - just out of nappies George Williams - started last season in Non League, plays on his weaker side now at League 1 level Marc Roberts - played Non -League last season. Sam Winnall - 3rd top scorer in the league. Yes imho Kevin Long was immense for us and White will be a loss. But to apparently be waiting for the lads mentioned above to 'fail' and avoid any credit to them is just bizarre. Mind, Mawson was a write off before Christmas.
So Roberts, Williams etc won't develop ? This is as good as they'll get ? We're nearly in March, emergency loans are all we can bring in. In reality unless we (again) win the next 8 the play-offs are out of reach so why on God's Green Earth wouldn't we now play our own and give them valuable experience ?
Roberts, not done in 8 month at the club do far. I don't think he will. Williams, if thats aimed at me then i've not mentioned him. We don't need to win the next 8 games to get play offs. 29 points over 15 games should do it. 1.933 (Over the last 10 completed season the play off marks been 74. something with 80 been the highest for Huddersfield in 09/10) But lets not bother improving, lets not bother with trying to get play offs. Actually why don't we just forfeit every game and hope 45 points keep us up but oh well if it doesn't
We don't operate in a vacuum. We have to achieve 8 more points than Coventry in 15 games and in doing so better the results of 3 other teams. Assuming no-one below us goes on an exceptional run. And your last paragraph is just bizarre.
This thread has spent too much time discussing the performance of the defenders; as Whitey says we won and kept a clean sheet. No one has mentioned the absence of Brownhill in terms of effectiveness for two games now; the final third was also a main contributor to the result bring tight. Had they clicked we would have been out of sight and our defence would still have kept a clean sheet. Roll on Tuesday!
Barnsley beat one of the weakest teams in the division. It can and will have to get better. I'm honestly amazed that people seem to think a clean sheet is the pinnacle of a defence.
We also defended a 1 goal lead for 85 minutes against one of the better teams a few weeks ago up at Bradford. With Williams at left back, Bree at right back, Long, and Roberts playing for an hour against a decent forward line. Sent from my SM-T710 using Tapatalk
But no one is saying the team is perfect and can't improve. Your the one Hemmsy who is implying after one defeat all year, climbing into the top half and a Wembley trip that we are doomed
We won. Clean sheet achieved. In a local derby. A local derby we don't often win. Without Kevin Long. Without relying on Winnall. There were over 10,000 of us in the ground. We're safe this season. We've a free hit in terms of the playoffs. We're going to Wembley. A lot of that ^^^ is quite remarkable. And it's all positive. I've no idea what you're moaning about. You want Roberts replacing and don't rate Winnall. I get that. You've made that clear. But why are you making comments like the one I've quoted? I'm very upbeat, supportive and happy to see what happens right now. This season has taught me a lot actually. It's certainly lessened any motivation I might have once had to speak on here like I know the answers. It's been a mental season. But a learning one. For every fcuker connected to BFC. We need to milk this time right now for all we can. The club has an opportunity to really use this to kick on. They (with Flicker and co) fudged the last opportunity in 2013. Chill art. You Reds.
Spent a good while reading all these and IMO there has been some rite garbage spouted in this thread with one or two sensible voices in between. quite unbelievable!
Completely agree with whitey Everyone at the club deserves a lot of credit for the turnaround Some people seem to forget that we are actually playing against another team of 11 men who, in the main want to win too and granted, there are some very poor teams. But there are also some quite capable players against us every week and no team wins 3 0 every week. Saturday, there were some things that need to be improved and with good management they will. We also played some of the best football at times that I have seen at Oak well for a long time. The finishing was poor but generally, of late, it has been anything but poor. The lads showed a lot of character on Saturday and ground out another very important win. That is good enough for me. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
I wonder if his opinion will change as he grows older - in 15 years will he still be shouting for us to sign unproven kids on loan or will he be arguing that a 36 year old Paul Digby is the answer?
They can't get better than a clean sheet. Not sure what more you want? To say that Roberts has not started a first team game for some time, thought he did okay. He is no Kevin long, agreed, but am sure he will grow into it. He has it in him if you remember his first few games at start of season. He was then dropped by LG for no apparent reason when LG was clueless as to his best team back then. As for Bree when he came in to the team played very well at Shrewsbury and has continued to do okay. Played a cracker at Fleetwood in JPT. He has and will make mistakes at his age. IMO he his better than Wabara who is now a regular in supposed one of best teams in league at Wigan . Sorry it's long winded but that's how I see it. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
