I have suddenly realised that I am a MASSIVE Shrewsbury Town fan all of a sudden................. I cannot think why though ?
Well I want them to win tonight but am definitely not a massive fan, and if Man U beat them it wont ruin my evening. If I was a massive fan a defeat for Shrewsbury would cause me a lot more than a mild disappointment
and you have no total dislikes of certain clubs I bet you just Love the Sheffield clubs and Leeds Utd..
Re: and you have no total dislikes of certain clubs I dislike our rivals. couldn't care less about Manchester United, they have no impact on the progression of my football club.
Re: and you have no total dislikes of certain clubs Really- the way they manipulate the money in the game - the way they steal youngsters from other clubs - the way they seek to change the rules - like the current threat to remove promotion and relegation from premier league. The way that thousands of youngsters (and older glory hunting tossers) walk round town in Manchester United shirts and pay money to sky to watch football from their couch rather than put money behind the gate at Oakwell. This has no impact on the progression, or indeed the short term health and term future of Barnsley football club? I hope you'll excuse me if I don't hold the same opinion and cheer when Manchester United loose with almost the same amount of pleasure as when Barnsley win.
Re: and you have no total dislikes of certain clubs So its your belief that if it wasn't for sky then these people would simply spend there money at oakwell instead ?
Re: and you have no total dislikes of certain clubs No - but if it wasn't for the premier league TV rights money would be shared more equitably and if people couldn't watch Manchester United every week on sky when they grew up a bit they'll find their way down to Oakwell. I was a Tottenham "fan" as a youngster - Ricki Villa, Steve Archibald and all that - my mate a Liverpool fan - Another Notts forest. Two of us are season ticket holders at Barnsley (although the forest fan is technically still a forest fan). I'm not sure whether that would be the same if the premier league and sky had been in place and we could watch those teams from our armchairs- whether there would be 0, 1, 2 or three of us at Oakwell. I accept this may be a quaint and even old fashioned view - BUT - the question is not whether things should be reversed - the question is whether Manchester United success damages Barnsley. The damage may already have been irrevocably done - at least to some clubs - but I can't stop cheering when the five clubs responsible for setting up the premier league loose. With Aston Villa's current performance it looks like at the end of the season it will only be those 5 clubs that are ever presents in the premier league. And many clubs who have been relegated - including us - have come close to going out of business. I wonder how far Villa will fall - but they've had 20 years of the good life. I wonder whether they will survive - or become another coventry.
Re: and you have no total dislikes of certain clubs There are many aspects of football which I either disagree with or dislike due to the position of BFC, but I donät hold Manchester United personally responsible. I couldn't give a toss when Manchester United, city or even Liverpool play. I'm a Barnsley fan.
