They won't be the only ones. The only chance of us signing him is if we get promoted and then it's only a slim one.

it's a point that was made earlier on another thread. we could be developing a reputation as a team who scouts good talent from the 21s, gives them proper league football and quickly builds their value for their parent club. we do need to be converting some of them into permanents, and don't want to become a revolving door. but on the other hand, more clubs will be willing to loan us their better players, which can only be a good thing. fine balance.

if i were preston though, i'd be thinking about giving him a new contract. for me he's better than ben pearson.

Didn't I read on here that they've offered him a few which he's turned down? If so it could be a sign that he's another Mawson, and could well choose us over 'bigger' clubs for footballing reasons. A slim chance, admittedly, but definitely seems possible if he enjoys his time here.

EDIT: Admittedly, he could also be holding off signing Preston's contract because he's holding out for a big payoff and a comfy seat on Liverpool's bench.

Looks like he's signing a new deal with us, which is good news -

Not surprised to read any of this - he's far too good for league 1, and I'm utterly stumped as to how he couldn't get in the Preston team.

    Enjoy him while he's here!

He wasn't playing well enough to get in the team. We have some very decent attacking midfielders at the moment, which is where Brownhill tended to play in our set-up. Daniel Johnson, Paul Gallagher and co. are above him in the pecking order. We were never planning to let Josh go. He'd stalled a bit in the past 12 months and needed some games, and clearly this loan has benefited everyone concerned.

We brought in Ben Pearson because we were lacking a bit of bite in the midfield. We needed someone who could get stuck in but also provide a bit of quality on the ball and he can certainly do that. He's just served a ban for 10 yellow cards but from what we've seen so far he's looked very decent.

tbf, in his first and last couple of games with us he was class. it was all the games in the middle where he seemed to go missing for far too long. the talent was obviously there, but i'm not sure his application always was. so yeah, if he's with a squad that has him fired to be on his game every game, very different player on your hands..

Could just as well apply to Brownhill from what I've seen. He's played deeper in a midfield two.

Aye, he's certainly not gone missing when he's played thus far.

All us PNE fans rate him highly but our main gripe with him was tackling, physical nitty gritty side of the game and all that, but if he's showing otherwise with Barnsley then that's excellent to hear.

I really rated Pearson. Still very young but I predict a bright future.
Wasn't expecting much of Brownhill, but god what a player.
There's a gulf in quality between championship and div 1 but Brownhill looks a class act.
He has everything you want from a midfield player
Anyone who can keep Josh Scowen out the team must be good...

He's so good, I find it staggering he isn't a regular at PNE. I'll continue to enjoy watching him here until he returns to North End. I don't mind us borrowing players, loanees etc, so long as they're better than anything we've got. And when he came in, he was. And as you say, to keep Scowen out is a testament to his ability.

Bright future wherever he ends up.
