According to The Sun, Bristol City boss Lee Johnson is lining up a deal to reunite with Barnsley winger Adam Hammill at Ashton Gate. Johnson, 34, left Barnsley to become Bristol City boss last month, returning to the club he made 197 appearances for as a player, whilst also following in the footsteps of his father Gary, who also had a spell in charge of the Robins. So far, Johnson has dragged Bristol City five points clear of the relegation zone, having won three and drawn two of his five games in charge, with survival certainly the target right now. Johnson hasn't brought in any new faces having arrived outside of the January transfer window, and he has chosen not to bring in any loans so far, but he will no doubt want to put his own stamp on the team this summer - and one of his top targets could be playing for Barnsley. The Sun report that Johnson wants to reunite with winger Adam Hammill, who he signed for Barnsley back in November, and he has hit five goals in 18 games since re-signing for the Tykes on a free transfer. Hammill, 28, started his career in the Premier League with Liverpool, but failed to make the grade at Anfield, and has since carved out a decent Football League career with Barnsley, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Huddersfield Town, to name just a few of his clubs so far.
not this season, but next season i imagine there's every chance. hammill will be playing championship football next year. i imagine our only chance of keeping him next season, is if we sneak up through the play-offs
How sweet would it be if we went up and they go down and our players who are targets of championship clubs just give it that one........'errrrr neaw tha right ****, am stopping wi tarn this season' Jog on
To be fair, apart from a decent spell with us first time round, he didn't break many pots in the Championship with Wolves Huddersfield and Rotherham and i wonder if League One could be his best level.
He's lost two of his last three games without his team scoring a goal, so they have that wrong. Even if we get promoted I reckon there is still zero chance he will be here next season. But then I don't think there is any chance of Adam moving his young family all the way to Bristol to play for a team that next year will be in a relegation battle.
1: Won three and drawn two? Don't they have access to websites to do a bit of research. 2: I can't see Hammill being tempted down to Bristol. All sounds like lazy journalism.
Adam and his partner have another baby on the way I can't see him going all the way down there. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
It would be nice to think the club are in some initial talks with our outstanding players, albeit ones that can't guarantee the division we're in next season (yet). PNE are apparently close to a deal with Brownhill too.
2 of their last 3 games were 0-2 and 0-4 losses at home??? The journalism I see coming out of Brizzle is atrocious.
I don't see why the club think summer is a natural time to deal with contracts. Yes lets run down our best players contracts by another few months instead of trying to get someone signed up longer which would be an additional boost to our league form and could push us on even more. Huddersfield extended a contract the other day too.
it seems pretty obvious to me. we don't know which division we're going to be in next year, and the budgets between league 1 and champ are massive. the club, the players, the agents all know that. players won't want to commit to a league 1 club either, if they think a move to a champ club would be on in the summer. there's also the point that any contract negotiations now can only distract players attentions from the job in hand. now is absolutely the wrong time to be getting into contract negotiations. i doubt anyone - the club, the manager, the players, the agents - is interested in contract talks right now
It's incredibly lazy journalism. Half of the facts are wrong for starters. There isn't anything in there that says Lee Johnson has approached us about Adam Hammill. It merely says that he used to be the manager here, Adam Hammill is a good player etc. He'll be on the move in the summer if we don't go up I'm sure. Where to is anyone's guess at the minute. But you've to bear in mind that he's already had failed spells at Wolves, Huddersfield and Rotherham. Sent from my I-Oven using the internets
