Hard to beat his performance on "America" when he was with The Nice. Fantastic live version in my mp3 collection

Didn't their track 'Fanfare for the Common Man" get used by Bob Jackson as the intro to Saturday Sport on Radio Sheffield, in the early days of Praise and Grumble?

Yes so did I. Late 60s and early 70s was the golden age of live concerts at the City Hall. Off the top of my head I also saw:

Pink Floyd (Dark Side of the Moon)
    Deep Purple
    Genesis
    Mike Oldfield
    Uriah Heep
    Renaissance
....and a few more besides. Great, great days!

All concerts less than a pound as well. What is it now - £70 and upwards and you need binoculars to see the stage, never mind who is on it!

Saw him play with The Nice at Sheffield City hall. Incredible keyboard player. Got a lot of stick for when ELP got a bit intense but still a superb musician. Spent a lot of my early teenage years pretending to play my dressing table to ELP riffs. From Todmorden I believe.

In a similar vein to ELP, what about Jon Hiseman and Colosseum? Another of the great jazz/rock fusion outfits. I'm pretty sure that they played a "Prog Rock" night at The Hub/Stables club on Peel St once. It was a surreal experience!

Ritchie Blackmore who toured with Nice is saying Hendrix wanted to form a band with ELP and call it HELP . Just don't get keyboard players chucking Hammond organs about on stage and stabbing synths with knives ,anymore

    RIP Keith.
Fanfare for the common man was one of the best IMO from a great Yorkshireman .
Intro from that should always be played ahead of entrance theme IMO.
