Great Picture Also removes any doubts that some voiced on here earlier that Fletcher went over easily looking for the pen. It wasnt just the keeper was just too late he was making absolutely sure he wasnt able to score

Just goes to show how much of a game changer it should have been, i doubt southend would have been as dominant with 10 men. Bad desicion from the ref, but also the linesman should have seen there were no defenders near. Gutless/incompetent officials seem to be the norm these days.

Proof enough for me. That sour taste in my mouth at losing a game has now turned to acid.

When are we ever going to see officials at Oakwell who know what they are doing? Probably never, is the answer to that.

The point is, they should've been down to 10 men. Then would their game plan have been as effective? I for one would very much doubt it. It was a major decision that the ref got wrong. I said at the time that Ash was well in front of the rest of the field and in no way could there be 2 covering defenders. Love how some on here seem to like shouting down our injustices/ claims, making out they've seen something that just wasn't there. Bad decision that could quite easily have effected the outcome of the game, even taking into account the penalty miss.

    You don't know that.

One blatant handball-deffo pen not given

One blatant red card not given for Fletcher one on one not given-resulting pen missed due to gamesmanship

I am so mad, the keeper is just a cheat ,hope they do not go up, fed up of dirty, cheating teams hacking us down, gamesamanship, time wasting, no wonder folk getting turned off going to football, next weeks team are just as bad, Fleetwood are like all in wrestlers, its time Hecky made a big deal of this, get it out there in refs minds , like Fergy used to do,we want protection from the dirty cheats in league 1

Some have said they should have been three up in twenty minutes. Not so. Davies had no saves to make in that period to speak of. Their fowling should have merited half a dozen yellow cards plus we should have seen the keeper sent off.

Wasn't the reasoning for not being red, that the ball was moving so fast away from goal, Fletcher wouldn't have got to the ball even if he hadn't been brought down.

I've only read what was claimed to have been said by the ref that there were 2 covering defenders. Ash seemed to be in control of the ball and in no way could the ref or anyone say the ball was moving so fast that he would not have got the ball. He didn't buy the foul, keeper made sure he was taking him out, blatant denying of a goal scoring opportunity, red card all day ( except for the ref on Setdy)

It was Phil Brown who said he wouldn't have got to the ball.

    http://m.echo-news.co.uk/sport/14341089.Brown__Win_at_Barnsley_has_renewed_our_confidence/

Tykes' players and fans were furious Blues goalkeeper Daniel Bentley was not sent off for his foul on Ashley Fletcher which led to the spot-kick being given.
However, Brown agreed with referee Darren Handley's decision to show the shot-stopper just a yellow card.
“I didn't think it was a red card,” said the Shrimpers boss.
“The lad was quick but he would have to have been really quick to get to the ball before it went off the pitch.
“Were there any covering defenders? Probably not so I can understand the red card shout but I just think the ball would've been out of play before his next touch and that's why it was only a yellow card.

I think we're overdoing this Southend admiration...they did have a cracking start...got a joke goal, missed a couple of other chances too to be fair , and defended stoutly with 10 behind the ball till the end , and also looked big and well organised although got lucky with a pen miss...Fletcher sitter...Watkins easy..ish header . But remember they only managed three shots in the last 75 mins of the game , and that includes the goal in 90 + 6.

It was a day when just about everything went right for them . . . defensive howler for their first, lucky to not have their keeper sent off (like in the reverse fixture), lucky that we missed the penalty, lucky that our strikers were off form, and their lad who scored the second probably couldn't hit it that well again 99 times out of 100.

It happens. We'll have beaten teams this season who probably felt like everything went our way . . . we've got to stop thinking what could have been, dust ourselves down and move on.

I seriously don't understand any of the Southend admiration. Awful team who were just intent on stopping us playing by whatever means possible. Yet another cynical team, even worse than Donny.

Fletcher would easily have got the ball. To claim otherwise is completely ridiculous. The ball trickled out of play slower than I could have crawled. Anyone who disagrees just watch the highlights back.
