He played in a Liverpool side that was set up to be hard to break down, almost 2 banks of 4 with Gerrard and Torres or whoever was the striker at the time, doing the damage. It's very easy to look good defensively in sides like that and most of the time it was Hyypia being the best of the bunch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's not easy at all. Not when Finnan's your right back & Riise & Traore your left backs. Hyypia was well into his 30's & past his best & some of the performances I'm talking about Agger was alongside Carragher.
Can't believe Ibra has never won the Champions League. When he was at Inter and Barca, they both won it the season after he left. Been such a class striker the past 15 years
A striker s reputation is based on goals and at what level they score them at. Ibra is the best player I have seen in the flesh. Aubuyeymang is scoring for fun. International. Bundesliga. European competion. Doesnt matter. Hes still popping on in the bag. Kanes good. Potentially can get to those levels and be the best English striker since the likes of shearer sheringham folwer etc.
Nahh Ibrahimovic is very overrated for me. He plays in a league where they have won the title in march, so I'd love to see what Kanes return would be playing for them. His league titles return is impressive but again, he's always played in leagues where there isnt much competition and anyway, trophy returns doesnt always indicate the better players, would you say Paul Scholes was a better player than Gerrard? Hes played in Italy and Spain, done well in both leagues. His record against English clubs isn't the best but it's got better as he's got older. His technique is top class, and those goals he scored against England were unbelievable!
His record against english teams has got better as the teams have got worse and the Italian and Spanish leagues are hardly very competitive, he didnt really make too much of a difference to Barca winning the league anyway. As I say, the level of football has gone dramatically downhill since the late 00's, I dont think Ibrahimovic would have hardly been talked about back then. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Quickly got found out at that level though and sold on. What a deal that was for Inter though, something like £40m + Samuel Eto'o. Bet they were laughing their socks off. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rooney should not be trusted to lead the line with his performances at major competitions. Harry Kane is a fantastic striker and he should lead the line with Vardy.
I'd say that was more down to the role Messi had. Under a different manager and if the best player in the world wasn't there, I think it'd be different. Inter did get a cracking deal though!
Ibra, overrated? Wow. He's quite possibly the most underrated forward there's been, full stop. Class act, and if Kane gets anywhere near that standard we're laughing. Rooney's the closest we've had since Shearer to a world class striker, but he peaked a while ago. If you were to pick a best XI from the Euro squads, would an English player get in? And Lampard AND Scholes were better than Gerrard for me. All three were world class in their respective primes. Whoever's bigging Caragher up must like ***** centre halves.
Very overrated. Personally wouldnt have him in my current top 5 strikers in the world and theres really not that many good ones about at present. Then again I'm fighting a losing battle here debating with someone who thinks Lampard and Scholes were better than Gerrard. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Paul Scholes? I think that Gerrard was a wonderful player. Fantastic. However, have a read around and you will find that most people world football tend to rate Scholes not only above Gerrard, but above most other midfielders in the modern game. He's certainly the best player I have ever seen in the flesh and I include Cristiano Ronaldo in that. Just incredible. I didn't realise just how good he was until I saw him play in the flesh. He dominates the midfield from start to finish. He truly was 'world class'.
I know. I'm a bit left field with my opinions. For example - I've always rated Conor Hourihane whereas you've often derided his talent and contribution to the cause. Scholes was a different sort of midfielder to the other pair, in fairness, but I think it's commonly accepted that he was probably our most talented midfielder since Gazza. But I preferred Lampard. Lampard scored nearly a hundred more goals than Gerrard. More assists. More trophies won. More goals for England. Was two year older than him. The only thing that makes folk pick Gerrard is this idea that he was playing in a **** side. Which is ********. Lampard played four years for West Ham, an actual ****, struggling side. He is the all time top scoring midfielder in the Premier League. Only Ryan Giggs created more goals. He was runner up for the Ballon d'Or. I really rated Gerrard but you're doing football wrong if you can't see Lampard bettered him in every aspect. I don't remember Frank costing his side a title, or his country a World Cup eliminating goal. Or chinning someone in a nightclub. Guess who Hourihane models his game on?
