George Waring has had his loan at Oxford extended to the end of season. He's slowly finding his feet at the club but the jury is still out on whether a big target man suits our style of play. Could be a good plan B though and I'm sure he will be involved at some stage at Wembley. How did he get on at Barnsley ?
He was a fan's favourite at Oakwell, mainly because he grafted for 90 minutes and came off at the end absolutely drained. Barnsley fans love a trier. That said, he was also a real handful for most centre-halves he came across in this Division so should do well a league below. He's not only good in the air but for a tall guy he also has a decent touch on the ground so the options weren't just to lump it up for him, he also liked it played into feet. Once he's fully fit, he'll be a brilliant addition to your squad.
Loved him. Great player, not just a target man scored all types of goals and brings others into play. If it wasn't for his persistent injury problems he would have been with us for the season Sent from my SM-G800F using Forum Runner
Although I like Fletcher I think I prefer Big George. Although he is a very tall I wouldn't say he is the James Hanson type targetman where you lump it up and he flicks it on. He can't really jump and ain't that great in the air but he holds the ball up very well and certainly causes problems for the opposition.
That said, he did fit our style of play at the time, which was 4-5-1, the one being big George. I don't know if Oxford are playing one up top, but, if you are, then big George is as good a player as you will get at that role, scoring goals and bringing midfielders into play. In theory, he should work ok with two up top as well, but we don't as much evidence to prove that to you. Everyone at Oakwell was hoping that we would get him back once his injuries had cleared, so there was some disappointment when it turned out you had got him. if you can find it on YouTube, have a look at his goals against Walsall at Oakwell last season. Pretty good for a big fella. See you at Wembley!
I really liked him for the reasons stated above. I'd have loved to have seen him back in a Barnsley shirt but I understand why we didn't re-sign him. I'd like to see him do well, except against us obviously.
Liked him, like others have said his injury problems let him down.If he plays against us I reckon Mawson and Roberts would have no problems with him. And yep, I just jinxed it!! He'll score a hat trick now
Fantastic player. Wish he was still with us. Big lad, who could hold the ball up as well as I've seen anyone, but knew where the net is too which is a rare combination. Has the potential to play at a good standard. Not sure he'd get in our side now as I think he's a similar sort of player to Watkins who I'd prefer, purely because he has a couple of years more experience than George including a winning goal in a cup final. But that shouldn't detract anything from Waring who I think, and many others on here think very highly of. Would love for him to do well for you, and fire you into League 1 so long as he has an off day at Wembley. Sent from my I-Oven using the internets
Wasn't his first goal in that game a handball? The 2nd was class though. Sent from my I-Oven using the internets
