    His victim was 15. That's why she boasted about it (if she did) and was pleased about it (if she was). She's not of an age to make good decisions about things like that when she's been groomed by a man. That's the whole point of the grooming bit, to make her think that she wants to do it and is pleased afterwards. It still doesn't mean that she is classed as old enough to be able to make that decision for herself.

    There seems to be more details coming out that the media were banned from printing / talking about during the case. I had no idea about the bestially until this afternoon.

    Does 16 make her able to make the decision for herself ? I'm not sure that the passing of a few months would protect her from a sexual predator such as Johnson.

    I think the USA have a concept of statutory rape which has a clause in which if the age gap is less than three years it is not viewed as an offence. Please correct me if I am wrong as I'm not sure of my facts.

    This. The (alleged) immaturity of her behaviour is a perfect argument as to why young people need to be protected from sexual predators who are in a position of influence. She is a child behaving like a child. The ***** I've seen on here and social media by adult men seeking to blame her for being groomed is ridiculous.

    They'd deserve it in my book. Regardless of what she said/how she sees herself, the law is clear that people under 16 cannot give informed consent. If, despite knowing this, you put a significant amount of effort into grooming someone to the point where they are willing to perform sex act(s) on you then you're proper ******* scummy.

    So if this fifteen year old can't give consent, should venables and Thompson have been jailed? What about that lad who stabbed his teacher not too long ago? I understand the need to protect kids but let's be honest it's not as black and white as the day they turn 16 they become an adult
