According to Sunday sun Everton will let Holgate come back to Oakwell on loan next season. It also says Everton hope we get promoted so Holgate is tested in the championship

I'd rather have him than Connolly. Wouldn't be a bad signing at all if we did get him, especially if we don't get promoted.

He'd easily get back into the Barnsley first 11. Him and Mawson would be a good partnership.

Don't think it would be a great fit at the moment.

Roberts and Mawson are looking decent together at centre half. George Williams is capable of playing both full back roles and White is possibly best LB in the league. James Bree is on is way back soon too.

At least one of those may be sold in the summer, with or without promotion... with an expectable offer.

 

So he's only played 20 games in the league for us and not a professional one since, he'll easily get back in? Why when our defence has been very good recently barring injuries. Roberts has come on leaps and bounds and so has Mawson after the captaincy was removed. Rather have Kevin Long

 

Hes a million times more talented than Roberts.

He got a move to Everton in the summer. He'll have improved massively there.

He'll be playing for the England u20 squad today at the Keepmoat. Hes been picked and they released the likes of Reece Burke to the teams because they don't need them.

It doesn't matter how many games hes played. Training with the Everton first team will help him so much.

Marcus Rashford's not played 10 pro games but hes still miles better than any of our permanent strikers so I don't see how the matters

 

Bree is a better RB than Holgate and I don't see him as a CB. I'd rather we didn't get him back. He chose to leave and has had no good football since. That's his choice but we've moved on.

 

We have better players already. At full strength I don't think he'd get in the team now, in league one, so I don't see how he'd be strengthening the team in a league higher up the pyramid.

 

He'd be great cover for Bree. Who we know has injury problems. It's for next season anyway so i'm happy with it.

 

He'd walk into this team.

reece Burke would walk into our team too and like I said above England released him because he wasn't going to play. Holgates a centre back just like Stones was even though they played right back at league one.

 

Training and playing professional games are completely different. Why did you mention him playing for England under 20's? Jamil Adam got called up to republic of ireland squad when he was younger. Means nothing really. Digby keeps getting called up to England under 20s but alot of fans don't rate him either

 

I'd have him back without doubt

Williams, Smith and White (Aidy that is) are out of contract this summer. I certainly hope we keep all three, but it depends on whether or not we get promoted

But if you assumed we kept all of our current defenders (except loans), and signed Holgate on loan for the season, we'd have:

Right backs:
Bree
Williams
(Holgate)

Centre backs:
Mawson
Roberts
Nyatanga
Holgate

Left backs:
White
Smith
(Williams)

To me that's pretty strong, and undoubtedly good enough for League 1 as has already been proved. But for the Championship we'd need some better players obviously, and Holgate is good enough in my opinion

But it's very difficult to guess who's going to be here next season at this stage

 

I'd have him back on loan next season in a flash!

Only after he'd eaten the worlds biggest humble pie. Couldn't wait to get away when Everton came sniffing. Needs to build a few bridges.
