I was thinking the other day about our Wembley appearances and, having gone so long without getting there, we now seem to be making a habit of it. Well, not quite a habit, but look at this numerical sequence: 1st Wembley appearance - 2000, lost to Ipswich 2nd Wembley appearance - 2008, lost to Cardiff (EIGHT years later) 3rd Wembley appearance - 2016, Oxford JPT (EIGHT years later) and then.....maybe, just maybe........ 4th Wembley appearance - 2016, Play off final (EIGHT WEEKS after the Oxford match) Remarkable coincidences don't you think? Chuck in the number EIGHT that one of our most iconic players wore on his back (Neil Redfearn) and there you have it. Indisputable proof that EIGHT is our number. Course, this means that we won't be back there until the year 2024 but hey ho - something to look forward to
Not joking here,I was thinking the same the other day, apart from the 8 weeks between JPT and pay-off final.
Well I just thought of the last bit this morning. Having listed our remaining fixtures into my Prediction table (76 points we will get by the way!) I thought why not add the play off dates in there as well? I looked at it and immediately saw the possibility that the final was exactly eight weeks after the JPT final. Counted the days and there it was. Just one of those odd coincidences that sometimes comes up with numbers.
Don't know, but if there is I would think lumping a load of money on both upcoming events, with them, would be too good an opportunity to miss
Barnsley 1-0 hourihane free kick 88th minute To celebrate on the way home, burger and chips at services ( you've guessed it ) 8 quid
You might be onto something with this.....What time is it when there's a pork pie on top of Barnsley Town Hall ?............summert to eight
If you got a shift on you might make it back to Barnsley by EIGHT something? I bet plenty do, to celebrate our Wembley win.
One more stat for you regarding #8 . Hignett scores first in the Play Off Final, wears #8 , Joe Ledley scores first in FA Cup semi final, wears # 16. So its only right that the first to score on Sunday will be #24 , Ivan Toney. Oxford have a #24 but has never played this season. COYR.
Good work! There's probably more but I was just looking at the obvious ones. Footballers are well known for being superstitious so it seemed worth raising the "Wembley every eight years" idea
