I used to work at International Harvester/Case Tractors in Doncaster in the main office. The management regularly put up official notices on the notice boards all around the various buildings with their latest must do/mustn't do advice. So in cahouts with our secretary I did the following.... and upset a lot of people. I wrote an "official" memo to the effect that, as we had a very large car park for hundreds if not thousands of cars, then would people who arrived early for work please fill the car park's most distant spaces first so that late comers could fill the remaining nearest spaces, the ones closest to the offices etc, last. The secretary typed it up with all the required gumph to make it look official, and it worked. Well, of course it got the required response from everybody that read it.... "I'm not going to park right down there so that the lazy sods who turn up late can park next to the door... f.uck'em", etc, etc. It actually took several hours before someone twigged, the date. I often wondered how far up the ladder that one got.
I was shocked and stunned on driving down Wheatley Hall Road recently to see that the entire IH factory and offices, which in its day was a vast concern, are no longer there, wiped off the face of the earth. How sad to think of my many years there now meaningless.
