It's still The Football League Trophy, and as such I think it belongs to the Football League. So, no.
It's actually the Johnstone's Paint trophy that we won. It's engraved with the Johnstone's Paint Logo. The original Football League Trophy is probably in a cupboard somewhere at League HQ
Good point. Upon research, it's predecessor, the LDV Vans Trophy was a different trophy entirely. Who knows then whether we get to keep this one? Could we, just because we were the last ever winners?
It will probably end up in the football museum in Manchester while BFC are forced to pay for a replica.
Do the last winners keep it or will Johnstone's want it back for their board room cabinet? Presumably the same question arose with the LDV vans, Sherpa Vans, Auto Windscreens, Barclays Premier League, Rumbelows Cup, Milk Cup, Carling Cup etc. What happened to these trophies? The real League Cup actually has Sir Joseph Richards' (Former Barnsley & Football League Chairman) name on it and is unique in that it has three handles. We actually won the last ever Sheffield & Hallamshire County Cup. Did we keep that one or is that back at S&H HQ?
The Carling Cup was, whereas in its guises as The Littlewoods Cup and The Milk Cup, it was a different trophy. Would be interesting to find out what happened to them.
Re: I would have thought that I didn't know we had a cabinet in the first place. Better get down to Ikea for one quick.
Re: I would have thought that Just looking at our record. If we kept a replica of all the trophies we'd won there'd be 11 County Cups, an FA Cup, 3 Division Three North trophies, a Division One play-off trophy and a Football League Trophy. We also won the Sunday Pictorial Giantkillers Cup in 1961. Not sure if we received anything for the various runners-up we've had. I've toured the Barcelona & Real Madrid museums and they have some weird ones in there. Barcelona win the Catalan Trophy every year, their only real competition is Espanyol.
Re: I would have thought that Same at Anfield but they have the five European trophies so they've got copies and I'm sure they kept one for winning it 5 times
Re: I would have thought that It's in the board room at Oakwell and the play off final trophy is in there. (Cant remember what else)
Just asked the football league. We get the trophy for a year, there is no replica so we don't get one/anything to keep and the out dated trophies are kept by the football league and sometimes loaned to the football museum
Why dont we buy a couple of those replicas? We could start chanting Champions of Europe like Leeds do for no reason. Btw do we have the FA Cup we won?
