Depends on how many full backs are fit, I would be tempted to give Tuton a start, but hecky seems to prefer either fletcher or toney.
I think if white is fit would have to bring him in at left back and have g williams at right back replacing scowern. Even though josh did very well at covering that position yesterday. And I'd also be tempted to give tuton a chance looks like he can hold the ball up and will chase down and press the opposition from what I've seen in his substitute roles.
I agree to bring Fletcher in for Toney and unless another of the three injured full backs is fit keep it the same
Davies Williams Mawson Roberts White Isgrove Scowen Hourihane Hammill Winnall Tuton Providing White is fit then that would be my team. Brownhill looks a bit tired and could do with a rest in time for Blunts on Saturday. I'd be more than willing to give Tuton a go and use Fletcher/Toney as impact subs.
That's 3 people in this thread already that have suggested we should start Tuton ahead of Toney and Fletcher. Has he done something I've missed? Because the only time I've seen him was when he came on against S****horpe, and barely touched the ball in half an hour. Not saying for a second he doesn't have something, but he looked a long way off the pace of league 1 football to me. Personally I'd be picking Fletcher with Winnall - our 2 best goalscorers. I appreciate the view that they're not as effective in a partnership as Watkins + 1 of them, but Watkins isn't available, and I haven't seen anything in Toney that suggests he can do what Watkins does for the other 2.
Why did we buy him? To sit on bench? He came on vs Port Vale and looked lively and have seen him a few times in development squad. Get it now?
No I don't, sorry. He's done nothing to warrant a start for me, and we have four huge games in front of us, to try and reach the play-offs. Fletcher has scored goals. Big, important goals. Toney hasn't set the world on fire, but you can see there's an understanding there when he's playing with Fletch. It's not a criticism of the lad. If we didn't have anything to play for, I would agree with you.
Again not sure we can start with Tuton at this stage. If the play offs disappear you might start him in a meaningless game or two but not right here right now with so much still to play for. He puts himself about a bit so I can get the argument that he can offer wha Watkins but you would have to go with Fletcher or Toney. Toney I thought played well against Oldham but he was pretty poor yesterday but again chances were created for Sam which is the man point of any partner he has.
Oh did you see much of Fletcher and Toney before they moved to us on loan? Did they both warrant starting spots? I don't get people. Do you watch the u21s? People always complain about us not bringing our own squad through the ranks, but when someone suggests something like i have they don't want it.
That's kind of the point though isn't it? No, we hadn't seen Fletcher and Toney play before they joined, and hence had the same expectations as for Tuton - i.e. none. But we have seen them now, and certainly in Fletcher's case, what we've seen has been very good. So why would anyone advocate overlooking him for a player we'd seen nothing/very little of? I absolutely do want to see young players from our U21's given a chance, but not in the 4 'cup finals' we've got left this season.
Wasn't there yesterday, as I was DJing in London. Really liked Fletcher when I saw him come off the bench when he first joined us, but his work rate & layoff to Winnall is poor. I personally would start with Toney & bring Fletcher on with 30 mins to go. Hoping White is fit, as that means Scowen can come on as an impact sub too. Our bench was seriously depleted yesterday, meaning Hecky had few options to break the deadlock.
