I just hope we learn lessons from the past. What board need to be thinking is how much is it costing us in lost revenue each season we are in this league. Conor created and scored too many goals to lose him for anything other than silly money imo
Didn't we pay £250,000 for him when he wasn't a fraction of the player he is now? Daylight robbery if he goes for that
Only Bosman to thank. With a year left on his contract, then the club will have to listen to offers, and judge whether the fee offered is greater than the value of his contribution for one more year (with the possibility of him 'doing a Howard'). Tough line to tread. Personally I don't expect Hourihane or Winnall to be here at the start of next season unless we get promoted.
I wonder how much Plymouth stand to gain when he goes? Seeing as he was, allegedly, their best player when he left them to join us I bet they are due 25% of any sell on fee at least. The chances of us getting millions for him are pretty slim I would have thought because.....well, that's how it is for us. We don't rake in five million pound fees like clubs like Peterborough have done in recent years. Unless, of course, our new management regime are going to change that? It's about time they did, no doubt. We have always been a selling club and always will be. There's no changing that and nobody would complain about it if only we got fair transfer fees for our star assets. Of course, we will probably never know because of the "undisclosed fee" farce.
I would have thought that bearing in mind the value of promotion, Hourihane's value to the club must be around £2.5 to £3 million. I just hope we're brave enough to take the gamble of holding on to him if we don't go up this season.
250,000. Then say 3k a week for two years so add another 300,000 onto that. Then whatever signing on fee he will have got for turning down other clubs for us. Plus no doubt an healthy goal scoring, appearance, asists bonuses etc. We've probably invested around the 750k mark in improving every aspect of his game. An Irishman playing for Rangers and based even further away from the mrs. I can see him leaving but for an English northern based championship club but if he goes for anywhere near that amount get ready for **** to hit the fan.
That's the major problem with our current business plan though isn't it, constantly starting again each seasons a gamble
Agree with this, if we don't get promoted then I doubt he will sign a new contract and the club will cash in!
I'd rather see him leave for free end of next season. We have to have some consistency and make a stand at some point. Imagine Brownhill goes. Hammill doesn't stop. Is grove goes back. Then conner goes. That's more or less starting from scratch with another new midfield.. We have to stop this at some point
Surely itd be worth the gamble of keeping him for the season, with the way we've played the second half of this season we'd have a great chance next year. Then if we do get promoted, Championship football would be more appealing than SPL surely? And if not, we'd have better funds to be able to replace him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Fully agree with you fella but recent history tells us the club will likely cash in! As you've alluded to, if all the loans go back and don't return, hamill fails to agree a new deal and hourianhe, winall and mawson are sold then we are left with another rebuilding job!l rather than a solid foundation to build on!
League one football should be more appealing than spl. I would say the standard is roughly the same look at kane hemmings scoring for fun in spl. Harry forester now at rangers. Connor wouldn't even be challanged in spl if he wants to further his career championship should be his aim. But I think if celtic came in he would be gone with him been a cork lad. Doubt he would go rangers though. Probley load of ****** if Nixon has said it he linked just about everyone and his dog to bfc last window I've stopped taking notice of him now.
