John this little 'thing' you've got going on where you try slagging Jamdrop off isn't a good look for you mate
Marc Roberts on this one. More players in genuine contention this season so gonna pick a different one for every different poll
Its unbelievable to think we've been gagging for a 20 goal a season striker for nearly a generation. We've hit one who's managed it in 75%of a season and he's not even in the top4 votes! Wierd innit?
Hammill. Hasn't been here all season, doesn't always stand out, hasn't got the goals of winnall or the assists of hourihane, but his arrival marked an immediate upturn in performance and eventually results. We have won a trophy at Wembley and might yet be promoted, none of which would have happened without his signing IMO. His standards seem to have rubbed off on everyone else, the rest of the squad seemed to pick up at least 10% - his arrival made everyone else better as well as improving the side just by him being in it. I would have no problem if the award went to either centre half - Roberts has a lot of backing but Alfie has been great too - ssw, captain Conor, Marley, George Williams - in fact since before Christmas the whole lot of them have for me been very consistent - which is why I selected the one who for me was the catalyst to the improvement
I've gone for Winnall, just as I have on the club's official vote thingy. The lad who's played nearly every week, all manner of positions, always our chief threat and scored 20 goals in a season. I think he had a terrific first season too, may have won it had he not been missing for three months. He deserves it for me. Conor won it last year. He's been just as key this season. Goals and assists, leading by example. Adjusting/adapting. No coincidence we lost 6 league games consecutively when he was injured. And I've got Marley in my reckoning because he's underrated. He's been our most consistent player this season, can't recall many off days for him. If he was a better finisher he'd be well into double figures too. Gutted that he's missing right now. And it's showing in our recent performances. I'd have Conor 2nd, Marley 3rd. All three would be popular winners in my house. I can see why Robbo, Willo and Hammill are getting votes. But I'm astounded that Adam has received so many on here. He's running away with it. Dribbling even. Fair play to him, he's been great hasn't he, and a few standout moments (Wembley especially) must be swaying folk. Because I'm very surprised by this. But, it's an opinions game.
On the basis that he was the catalyst for our change of fortunes, bringing a confidence to the whole setup that formed the basis upon which the improvement of everyone else was based, it can only be Adam Hammill for me. We would still be bottom half of the league without him.
Too hard. Which makes a change. And for a change maybe it should be a defender? Since we beat Fleetwood in the return leg of the JPP we've conceded just 10 goals in 20 league games. I'm not sure I remember a Barnsley team with such a good defensive record in recent years.
Interesting so far - I understand how Hammill is ahead in the vote in spite of only playing since November but I'm surprised that Marc Roberts is in front of Hourihane and Winnall. I like Roberts but only played approximately half the games. All about opinions!
Hourihane, Williams, Roberts in that order for me. Hourihane because he has developed to being a great captain, Roberts & Williams have both been amazing since their inclusion in the first team. I put Williams ahead of Roberts only because he has covered both full back positions so well.
