Our penalty on Saturday came from a Roberts long throw - has anyone mentioned that?

I don't recall any mention of it but, having just watched the Player highlights, we finally got a goal from one of his long throws. This is what happened:

Ball is out on our right touchline, mid way between the goal and the half way line. Scowen is gesturing to Roberts to give him the ball, as is normal (ie full backs take all the throw ins from there).

Roberts saw Winnall free well down the pitch and launched a missile right to his feet. A bit of interchange play between him and Fletcher, plus a good tackle from Brownhill leads to the penalty.

I know this is stretching the "Roberts assist" theme but it was only about twenty-odd seconds from launching the throw to Fletcher winning the penalty. It was terrific awareness on his part to spot Winnall free and to find him from distance. So many of our short throw ins are pointless and often end up with the opposition.

So, if I were Roberts I would chalk that one up as an "assist".

No, it was our defender being wide awake and having the strength and accuracy to launch a throw so far, straight to a red shirt.
