I've just been crying my eyes out... so devastating.

Have just been told that next door's lovely chocolate lab, Toby, has been diagnosed with a brain tumour today at the specialist vet in Derby.
    Toby is not coming home.

Terrible news. They are part of the family and losing your dog destroys you. I always think the enjoyment you get from them outweighs the loss, but devastating still the same

That's awful news. It's absolutely heartbreaking losing a dog. It won't bring him back or make your loss any easier to come to terms with but like Homer says just remember the happiness and love you gave him while he was with you.

    It's next door's dog.

So it is, I don't know how I missed that. Still upsetting nonetheless.
