All this with west stand

Anyone else think it's all a bit dodgy

When BM was asked on the football report he said " we may open it if every single seat is sold and I mean every single one "

Sounded to me as if you didn't want to open it

Why does every seat have to be sold to open another block

I may be completely wrong but something fishy about this

Not sure how SYP could honestly warrant the stand not opening if PC wanted this stand opening ?

In the last few weeks BFC have been very open about things and issued statements left right and centre when questions have been asked on here

But not a single word regarding this ?????????

I'm beginning to think that. They now seem prepared to sell the whole of the West Upper. I'm sure a lot of people would have preferred the views in these blocks to sitting on the bottom row of the Ponty for example. They've also maxed out the turnstiles, facilities and concourses of two stands, when the support could have been more comfortably spread. We need answers, if only to stop us venting our spleen at the wrong people.

 

Don't you think it's weird to sort of lie about it?

 

No one has lied, but it could be said that we (fans) may have taken vague comments out of context, and ultimatly started blaming the police when it's not their fault.

 

More that. Lied was way too strong it's why i said sort of. There seemed some sort of attempt to say this is a police decision not ours whereas if it's an economic decision then that's fair enough.

 

What stinks is there has been a self-imposed or SYP-imposed false ceiling on the stadium's capacity. When ticket sales surged as could reasonably be expected, and we got close to this false ceiling we have had to designate the game 'all-ticket'.

The club 'slashed' the price of tickets for this game with the stated view that they wanted as many reds fans as possible in the stadium on Saturday, only to close a quarter of the stadium and designate it all-ticket thus preventing the pay-on-the-day supporter from attending.

If it's the clubs decision it's utterly bizarre. Even more so when you think that only last week we put on 35 free coaches to fill Wigan's stadium and line DW's pockets. If it's SYP's decision then it stinks how we are being dictated to especially considering Wednesday's stadium situation for their play-off game. Walsall visited Oakwell already this season without incident. WE have also had the West Stand full with away supporters again without incident. There is no precedent or justification to force us to shut that part of the stadium.

 

It will be surely be club decision. If I were to guess there's probably a substantial additional police cost for opening it meaning they could probably only justify opening if they were confident of getting it full - especially at the reduced ticket prices. Hence Ben saying they'd only push it if there was clear excess demand which at the moment there's probably not given we only got close to selling out today.

I'd like to know who's the driving force behind the decision (SYP or BFC) so to know whether it's worth my making a complaint to the PCC regarding this.

I'd quite happily do so, but if the facts are that circumstances existed where BFC could have opened these areas, but opted not to do so, then it's a wasted effort.

From the information Bondy has provided so far, it implies that it's a SYP decision, but I would like some confirmation of this from the club.

It's great that so many people will be there tonight supporting barnsley.

However if ask these so called 'fans'had been attending ALL season the club would perhaps have been in a better position regarding all staffing levels than they are now.

Just support the club, team and individuals tonight and stop getting on their backs ffs ...

 

The decision to make it all ticket for Walsall when they have only sold 2100 was a bad one. They originally had 2000 tickets and could buy until 2.30 today and on the gate. They then got 4000 tickets, then they could only buy until 4.30 yesterday. They should have been given 4000 in the first place including pay on the gate - unless 3500-4000 went in advance!!!

It would have been fine not giving them the 2 very end blocks of the north so they had plenty of space away from the tunnel/west stand, and also from the East stand! It seems strange all this segregation when the stands aren't even joined together like new grounds are!! At Donny, fans are close together in a closed ground, at Sheff Wed last night the ground was full with home and away fans in leppings lane!!

Thinking about it again, especially with us only getting 1450 at Walsall, we should have been allowed to put them in the West (north side) stand and had as many as possible Barnsley fans in the north stand - with pay on the gate available on this stand!!!

SYP have a lot to answer for on all this!!!!!

As things stand it looks like an artificial sell-out. Barnsley fans locked out of seeing their team play today in what is a very very important match

 

If people really wanted to go today they would have booked earlier, which would have meant the ground would have filled up sooner, which would have meant they would have taken steps to open up the rest of the West because there would be clear demand to do so. I don't really see how anyone who really wanted to go has been prevented from going.

Don't know what you mean. We didn't sell out on first day, or second day. In fact only yesterday we sold out - which suggests actually they've got it about right. If there's really enough people out there to justify opening rest of the ground why didn't they book when tickets went on sale? If they had then we'd have filled up quicker and they'd open rest of the ground.

 

It's police orders.

From the horses mouth... They wanted sales cut off at 1330 so they know how many to police for.

 

People have commitments like family and little things like jobs which mean they can't attend every week. Others have financial issues limiting the amount of games they can go to so only attend occasionally.

If we have 7000 season ticket holders (for example) and 8000 home fans each week then I guarantee that a large amount of the 1000 extra fans are different every week.

So when you criticise people for turning up for big games remember that most of them will have been to other games when they could.

 

You aren't far wrong but we all know there's last minute fans who decide to go. It's not "sold out" as such as there are empty areas.
