The guy I was replying to in those posts was being bang out of order. If you read the whole thread you'd see that. I enjoying discussing but when someone's views differ so greatly it often ends in argument. I don't mind arguing about football. I love football and especially Barnsley FC. It baffles me with the Winnall debate how during the week people put across the argument that if his all round game was better he wouldn't play for Barnsley. And that he's in the team for his goals not what he does outside the box. 'What do you expect messi?' Was a phrase someone used. Yet today his all round game inside and outside the box, on and off the ball, in the air and at his feet was outstanding. He scores a goal messi himself would be proud of.. Like genuinely it could have been Messi scoring that goal..I praise him for it and the same people try and tell me he does that regular. Yes he scores goals regular but no he does not play THAT well regular.
He played above his usual standards, I don't doubt that. But I've seen him play like that many a time, just sometimes going unrewarded. That's what I said, or what I meant. I felt he was better against Rochdale for example. And against Oldham and Millwall. Just off the top of my head. Against dem blades at home he was our best player by some distance, he was very good that day. Against a solid defence on the day. I think we'll just be better off accepting he was fantastic tonight. Whether it's out of the ordinary, or something he's shown before, it doesn't matter. Night pal.
Fletcher is always going to press more as he's the quicker and the most mobile of the two. Sam still defended fantastically from the front though. He won a lot more headers than usual. And his second goal was sublime shades of Michael Owen in his pomp.
It was the best I've seen him all season. Fantastic team performance, but Winnall is the reason we're taking a healthy lead to Walsall next week.
To be fair to him Andy, the reaction to his question, which I thought was reasonable, was completely ridiculous. Redarmychris wasn't the aggressor in that thread.
i didnt think he was up to it and didnt do much at all in the first half, but he was much more impressive like we know he can be at the start of the second half. and hopefully his sub was just about saving him for the next game, rather than an injury.
Take the penalties out and he's scored more goals than any top striker in the league and has more assists than any top striker in the league..that suggests to me he is the No1 striker in the division...including Wigan's £1m Will Grigg...he has been at that level consistently..the only thing stopping him being 30+ was Lee Johnsons brilliant idea of playing him for almost half a season anywhere but where the best striker in the league should be.
For his second goal their number 12, who doesn't even deserve a name check, has got hold of Winnall's arm for a good 5 seconds as he's running through. Credit to Sam for his determination and strength to not only stay balanced but also retain control of the ball through to the point of the finish.
