just read this on the express and star page from a deluded walsall fan "Honest Jon, it's totally refreshing to hear you and your rallying cry, you know it means a lot to the fans, but what comes across is how much it means to you. Just hope you find a place for Matt Preston, as a forward, not a defender, to be honest I think that ploy would work against Barnsley, and when all the dust has settled and contracts are discussed, I would hope you may consider signing Jay Emmanuel Thomas from QPR, not wanted by all accounts, former England youth and Arsenal player, to replace Romaine Sawyers who is close to moving to Brentford. Good luck to you on Thursday. It's simple really, don't concede and score four, as the great Brian Clough once said, it only takes a second to score a goal. Let's put Barnsley in their place, they have no right to be where they are, the only time they reached the top six of League One was the last day of the season. Party crashes, that's what they are, now let's get rid of them. UTS" no right to be there we done it the hard way and have every right to be there and as for last day we handled the pressure walsall couldnt handle anything, time to show whos the daddy on Thursday night
I wouldn't say he's delusional (well except from thinking that they can afford Jay Emmanuel Thomas' wages), more trying to get his fellow fans fired up. Fair play to him, after reading their forum the other night, it seemed as though they'd given up any hope. I think now the dust has settled (sorry to coin his own phrase) they can see that they still do have the slimmest of chances. Especially if the two championship play-offs are anything to go by. If we get an early goal, it'll be game over, we don't want to conceed early though, that would make things interesting. The boring the better. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
"don't deserve to be there" one of the most meaningless phrases in football. but its regularly used by all sorts of clubs, we don't deserve to be in this league, or we did deserve to win that game. We all know that feeling walking away from a game that we feel we have dominated and the other team had one bit of luck against the run of play. Deserve or not is not in the rule book. We are in a play off position not because we deserve it or don't deserve it, but because those are the rules and we won enough games and scored enough goals throughout the entire season.
By the rules of the competition we deserve to be there. Whether the rules are fair is a different matter, but that is for another day.
I thought it was a bit of a tongue in cheek post until the last few lines- then it just got rude. 'Deserve' is one of my pet hates. You get what you achieve, earn or have, generally on merit or- if you fall short - lack of merit. I find the word incredibly egotistical to be honest.
Should show that to the players immediately before the game as I think they may disagree with most of that.
He's obviously not seen the League 1 form table from 1.1.16 onwards - or witnessed the pasting we gave them at the Bescot in March. Their fans were ringing their local radio station after that game and the consensus of what they all were saying was that Barnsley were the best team they had played all season, we looked like a Championship team and they looked like a League 2 team
it must be the rules that you have to gather all your points in the first half of the season and the other games don't count.
More of the same in the comments below this piece; http://www.expressandstar.com/sport...alls-jon-whitney-give-barnsley-hell-tomorrow/ "......let's not forget Barnsley are party crashers, not been in top six all season, now let's get rid of them"

This "They have scored 3 or more 9 times this season"... That may be, but most of that was early in the season. As we improved their 2nd half of the season has been relativey lacklustre. The started strong and faded. We on the other hand...... COYR
It's usually the case with the play off scenario, in any division, that the team with momentum usually comes out on top. We certainly have that so, barring a freak result tomorrow night, we should carry that on for one more game. You can't say we are unstoppable, but we're pretty close to that. Then on to the next one.
Theur ground doesn't hold 12k does it? Bonkers that lot from Warsaw. They have gone a bit weird over the tie. Although I've noticed that since we started being relatively succesful again this season, many opposition fans have taken a dislike to us. When we were ***** for 10 years no one had a problem with us - weird that...
remarkable how teams still see us as the underdogs/gatecrashers. top of the league over the last 30 games. that's more than just a late run. it's title winning form over the last two thirds of the season
We're in a bit of a false position in relation to our form due to our bad start. true they say that the team the makes a late charge usually does well, but we haven't made a late charge. Sc unthorpe made the late charge for the playoffs and just failed. We we have been in good form since December, that's around 6 months. Hardly a late push for the playoffs. It's only our ridiculously poor early form that has prevented us from going up automatic.
