2 year deal. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stefan_Payne Barnsley Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Dover Athletic striker Stefan Payne. The Club completed the signature of hotshot striker Stefan Payne on a free transfer, signing a two-year deal with the option of an additional year. Payne, 24, has enjoyed a blistering campaign for Dover, which included 23 goals and 11 assists, taking his goal-tally over the last three seasons to an impressive 75. Speaking of the new recruit, Paul Heckingbottom said, “Stefan is also someone we’ve had our eye on for a while and he has all the right attributes as a striker. He’s scored a lot of goals over the past few seasons and will prove a good addition to our front-line in the future.” Stefan spoke with Barnsley PlayerHD, saying “To have the opportunity to sign for a club like Barnsley, I’ve taken it with both hands. I like getting in behind, taking people on and scoring.”
Whilst I'm all for signing these young hungry strikers, and this lad seems to have some pedigree, we seem a bit top heavy on them now. We have Tutton, Ash, and White already signed in the last 6 months or so. Their chances of first team football are already at a premium as they're behind Winnall and Watkins, as well as any loanees we might have. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Have you noticed, he comes with his own personal bubble on the field. It's like one of Derek Acorah's orbs. Spectral protection !
As you say this is now the 4th lower league striker we've signed for future potential and they can't all play. If we loan a few out it looks pointless getting them in the first place. Some I understand, this guy at 24 isn't going to improve that much I wouldn't have thought. Can see why we sign those in the 18-21 bracket.
As someone said above, not all of them will make the grade - if one in four becomes the new George Williams (or, dare I say it, Jamie Vardy) then we're laughing. Also bear in mind that we'll not be able to rely on emergency loans so will need a larger squad to pick from. Worth a shot, I'd say. They get to try and prove their worth in league football, we get a chance of signing an ace striker.
Quite right, some of these are late developers who will improve massively in professional conditions. Loads of examples I can't be arsed to list. Ian Wright probably one of the most famous. Imagine Tuton and this lad will be first team squad members. Ash and White will be knocking on the door and may be loaned to L2 or conference to see if they can cut it with the bigger boys of league football.
i can't cope with all this early transfer activity! think its great like , but just used to everybody else getting in first!
Nice one. Not all the signings from non league will make it, but at least we're exploring that particular market. If the talent's there with the likes of White, Ash, Tuton and Payne, I've every confidence our coaching staff will bring it out. After all, they've done an excellent job with George Williams and Marc Roberts.
Speaking as a Red who's married to a Dover Athlethic supporter, believe me when I say this boy is good. I wouldn't be surprised to see him start some games next season. He's something of a hero with Dover fans. We could have done a lot worse!
Some good finishing, but my god the defending is dire. That's not taking anything away from Payne, more me wondering how the hell we failed to score against Altrincham.
he looks quick and has an eye for goal. just you wait though we will soon take that out of his game by sticking him out on the wing or as an emergency wing back
err let me see, if only there was a smiley i could use to show im messing about... ohh and there it is, didnt you see it ?
