another airliner has gone missing with 66 poor souls on it. Suddenly worrying about a 3 nil lead in a football match seems less important.
As a frequent (and usually very rational) flyer, such things can really put the shits up me. I only ever fly with decent airlines, but having said that German Wings went down last year after an act of sabotage. I've used them plenty in the past. Whilst I'd never use any African airline, any sudden disappearence at cruising altitude sadly points to a bombing. If so, that brings into question the security at Charles De Gaulle, an airport through which I guess many of us have flown. Chilling.
In saying that we'd never whittle about football given there is someone dying from usually man made circumstances every second of every day. As tragic as this is of course.
Same here - though I did fly Malaysian a few times who until they lost 2 planes in a few months had a pretty decent record - really bad luck can happen anywhere. Not been to Malaysia since but might think a bit about whether to fly them That said in the russian roulette of life flying is still one of the safest things you can do - far more likely to get killed in a car accident and I drive every day without a second thought But to the original post - there are many more people killed in wars every year and terrorist attacks on ground targets, I lost one of my friends last week to illness, and I am sure many others of us will mourn the loss of a friend or relative or even pet in a football season of course they are far more important than a football match But football and other pleasures are what make life enjoyable I've already had 2 great days in the last couple of weeks where you forget the troubles for a while it would be nice to have another one tonight - though I wont be there. Its all a matter of proportion though - I want us to get through and will be very sad if we dont, but if l could chose between losing a football match or having my friend recover and be back in the pub this weekend it wouldn't be a choice at all.
Don't get me wrong I love my football as much as ever and yes 'course we should be talking about it, I was mainly meaning it puts into perspective all the anguishing and hand wringing that's going on about if we could blow a 3 goal lead or not.
In the bigger scheme of things there's currently been over 80,000 deaths today and over 190,000 births. http://www.worldometers.info/
really nice to know pedantry is alive and well and living on here, I apologise for mentioning anything to do with up to the minute news an will try to avoid it in future!
People do die every day but what goes through our minds with something like this is how it must have been for those poor sods on board dropping from 37000 feet so I totally get the point
