    Build a defence around stones...

Then he can have mawson for 30million and Williams for 10million.

    His defence is sorted..

Thanks Jose... I'll have my 20% agents fee in the post...

Joking aside, if Alfie was doing what he's doing for a PL side, you probably would be talking £30m and upwards. I'll stick my neck out and say he's the classiest centre-half we've had since Mick.

I was told by an Everton fan who lives in Penistone that John still wants a move to Chelsea. Seemingly the desire to move to Chelsea wasn't that he wanted to play in a Mourinho team but the fact that one of the England coaches that he has a lot of time for is based at Stamford Bridge and still is.

    Futcher was pretty classy.

I think Ian Evans was the classier centre half, compared to Mick McCarthy. First Division experience and it showed, whereas Mick was more of an agricultural kind of player. Great centre half, yes, and strong in the tackle and possibly the hardest header of a ball I have ever seen. Wouldn't call him classy though.

My assessment too and it's a nice combination to have - a ball playing centre half and a more defensive centre half.

I want him to work with Guardiola at City, he'll bring him on loads.

Fletcher's unlikely to get a look in given JM's track record of not bringing through youngsters. Need to stay with us, Ashley!

Oooh, I'm not having that. That pass he used to play from the edge of the box, outside of his right boot.....long curling pass into the left channels for Ronnie to run onto.

Ok, ok - he was a great player, admittedly. To be honest I only saw one full season in the late 70s due to my mostly southern postings so I did miss a lot of Mick's games with us.

What I did see though of that partnership was what I said. Evans was a proper thoroughbred centre half where Mick was still learning

Alfie is more Ian Evans, to Robbo's Macca. Arrijan somewhere in the middle. :D

Mourinho will develop Stones much further than Guardiola ever would. He already does what Guardiola asks of his defenders, Pique for example, good with the ball but not the best defender. Mourinho would get him defending properly.

Odd how much the most famous manager in the world could affect our summer.

He could break the bank to sign Stones, giving us a cheeky windfall, decide he doesn't want to gamble on the United youngsters, meaning Fletcher sees a permanent move to us as his best option and a load of others leave United for Preston as seems to be tradition to nudge Brownhill out and see him sign for us.
