Yes - good value for a fiver. Two screens on the backs of lorries in the pitch. Excellent view from all areas of the Ponty end. Supporters behave exactly as if the match was actually taking place on the pitch - -- we all stood up when we scored, clapped a player off when he was substituted etc. Wonder if club have considered doing the same for all Barnsley away games - may not be financially viable tho'
That sounds a tad weird! Not sure they'd be allowed with the broadcasting rights, plus they'd rather have fans actually attending the away games.
Not really weird IMO. Players will have seen snippets of crowd reaction at beam back so all positive imo
Celebrating a goal, of course, that's emotion and uncontrollable. Standing up to applaud a moving picture of a player being substituted, just sounds weird to me. Maybe not when you're surrounded by 1,000 others doing it though.
Yes, thoroughly enjoyed it. Work meant I couldn't be away in time to get to Walsall, as I knew I would be in Grimsby that day, so I never tried to get a ticket. But I didn't really want to watch such an important game on the telly at home so the beam back was the next best thing to actually going to the game. I was a tad worried when the thread was posted saying the screens were too small but in the event they weren't. They were smaller than the massive one used for the Liverpool game but that one was in the middle of the pitch and these were a lot closer, plus there were two of them, so they were plenty big enough to have a great view from anywhere in the stand. All in all, good experience. Great night in fact. If I couldn't get to a big game in person in future, I would do it again.
It helps of course that we have had 2 beam backs now and won them both. Might not be so much fun if we lost.
not weird at all - Had you filmed the Ponty end crowd on Thursday night and filmed the crowd on the first (home) leg match and compared them you would not have been able to say which was the live match and which was the beamed match.
i really enjoyed it screens big enough , good atmosphere, drinking in seats ( shame it was John Smiths) something different to watching in pub
I was definitely drinking Worthingtons. Would've preferred Smiths. Thought it was fantastic myself. People joined in with the songs being sung at the ground, and there was a great celebration at the end. Vastly preferred it to being in the pub.
can only suggest that the middle bar was selling Worthington's, as all season they are shambolic and can't even put cider in the fridge, so we had to buy from the small hatch where they used to sell programmes. that was definitely John"s
It was the next best thing to being there. In fact, because people behaved like they were, it was almost as good. Nice to be able to sit in my seat at Oakwell with a beer.
