Oh don't be such a drama queen the team know the town and the support regardless of if we take an extra 3000 this weekend.
The players will look at the league they are in and what they are being paid. Then if they have a better offer they leave, sorry to say it really is that simple.
agreed, but it's looking like they will have twice as many fans there as we do. that makes a difference to the players. not saying our numbers will affect our players, but i do think their numbers will affect theirs..
Not a shock at all. Games like this don't come around very often for us and I'd be doing everything I could to make sure I was there. I accept some people can't. Just surprised potentially more could for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
is it just me who laughed at the irony of "jakeWARRIOR" bairning about millwall ! moneys money and thats always a problem but to not go because its millwall is just daft.
The players are probably intelligent enough* to know that if it was at Manchester the numbers would probably be reversed. Millwall took 25k to their last big game at OT. Hope the players just treat it as an away match, because with decent support our away form could carry us over the line. * Yes, I know. Pro footballers and intelligence in the same sentence
Agree with this. Millwall were always going to take more fans than us, doesn't mean we support our team any less and I'm 100% confident the lads know this.
The trouble being the jpt final had a two month lead time - potentially two whole pay days and time to plan, whereas this game has barely a week's window to buy. They're also more expensive than the jpt ones. I agree that the prize on offer is realistically a hell of a lot bigger - but taking everything into account, the fact that we're looking like comfortably topping 20k (over 19k last count this morning anyway) shouldn't be sniffed at IMO.
Don't think the players analyse it quite like we do. They'll run out, see a big crowd, think '****, it's noisy' and crack on. I'm sure Adam Hammill won't be looking up from a mazy run thinking 'hmm, there doesn't seem to be as many Barnsley fans here as last time'. It'll probably be a bigger attendance than the JPT, but matters not one bit how that crowd is split. Good on Millwall for shifting their allocation, but I'd hope they would given it's a short hop across London for them.
Dont agree that is completely that simple - Who you are playing for and the club itself do enter the equation - Not sure Roberts would move to Leeds Utd for a small wage increase for example. We clearly have a squad that are happy together and a manager they want to play for and that does count for some players. I dont think though that whether we take 20000 or 25000 will make the slightest difference to any players staying or going
This is the third time in 16 years. By contrast the JPT was the first Cup we'd won for over 100 years. I'm amazed that another 20,000 have found the money to go down to Wembley again and I honestly never expected us to beat the JPT total. If we hadn't already been there 6 weeks ago I would have fully expected 25-30,000 sold.
I think there will be a variety of reasons..out of the four of us ( 3 ST holders and one regular pay on gate )who went together to the JPT I am the only one going on Sunday...one is put off by the fact that it's Millwall...the other two had holidays pre booked.
Fair enough i over simplified it! but how many turn up at Wembley will make no diffence to who stays or goes we agree on that. The result will make a difference.
At the last census in 2011 Barnsley had a population of just over 97,000. and Millwall had a population of just over 23,000. Their allocation of tickets outweighs this by some way. They'll get their support from a wider area of East London, plus the fact that Wembley isn't far to travel.
Similar for us mate. Out of 6 that went to JPT, 2 put off by Millwall and 2 got things booked, and 2 going down again
