Anyone know much about it? Any recommendations places to eat/drink etc? Accommodation is already sorted (apparently in the centre), be there for about 5 days. Cheers
Went to see Springsteen there a few years ago. The main drag is about mile along, pedestrian precinct. Most shops are there. At the bottom there is a busy square called 'Marianplatz'. They are a lot of bars with terraces around the square. Further on is the restaurant area with a decent choice. Really nice vibe in an evening all the way up the precinct. There was even a guy playing a grand piano. In 3 days there I never saw a single policeman in that area.
if the weather is half decent its worth visiting a beer garden - the Chinese garden in the Englisher Garden is quite a popular one. There is another good one just behind Karlsplatz S- bahn ( one stop from Marienplatz but you can easily walk it) if youve never been the Hoffbrauhaus is probably worth a visit but it is a tourist rather than authentic beer hall these days other than that losts of good restaurants and bars as Aylott says above - never been in a bad one in that area. If you want something different - there is also a good Aussie bar just outside the centre Ned Kelleys which is a good place to watch football if you are there during the Euros ( as are some of the beer gardens that will put up big screens)
As said earlier if good weather the beer gardens are great my favourite is the lowenbrau keller, food at the rats keller in the centre pretty good and as an alternative day out we took a train down to Salzburg last year well worth seeing but don't forget your passport they don't let you back on the train without it.
Thanks very much Gents Won't be there for the Euros, but it sounds like a decent place. Cheers for the info.
Re: Thanks very much Gents Head to Marienplatz and you can't go wrong, plenty of bars, breweries, etc. Depends what you're looking for really.
Auschwitz is not too far from München too. I really want to go there myself, although I don't agree with turning it in to a "tourist attraction"
