It is a bigger city than Manchester, yet it has two poorly attended football teams for its size and two derelict football stadia.
Would you go and post that on the Blunts' & Fowls' forums, please. I've got a popcorn mountain round the back that I need to make inroads into.
Sheffield is nowhere near as big as Manchester. The city centre holds more people however the full borough of greater Manchester has nearly 2.7m people in it, when South Yorkshire has only 1.3m as a whole.
Plus it can barely cope with Meadowhall taking it's business, where as Manchester has the Trafford Centre and still manages to have a thriving city centre with good shops.
Its an Industrial sh*thole, my missus is a Manc, works in Sheff, she says the same. Bramall Lane is an alright ground now, although both stands behind the goals are old terracing with seats on. Hillsborough has not had a new stand since the 66 World Cup and they were given money to develop then. They have added a tier to their already existing main stand, their Kop and Leppings Lane are still the same structures they had 50 years ago. We have rebuilt three quarters of our ground over the last 25 years, they've painted 75% of their grounds.
I really like Bramall Lane. Aesthetically superb, having been made all seater while retaining the orginal feel of the ground. If they remove the pillars from the Kop it'll be even better. I really hope that when we come to build a new West Stand, it's done in a style sympathetic to the original feel of Oakwell. I do agree that Hillsborough is an absolute horror of a ground in every respect. On a par with Elland Road for most decrepit away ground still in use.
Bramall Lane is a fantastic ground. Great acoustics and a proper football stadium. Hillsborough is a mess and I say that with no pleasure. If they go up they need to improve the ground before money is spent on players.
