Have given a very good account with a poorer team that doesn't have the benefit of parachute money or a multiple Premier League winner as manager. Great credit to the team and to Carlos Carvalhal, who has worked wonders to get his side this close. The Wednesday fans were magnificent, and contributed hugely (massively?) to the atmosphere. It's a cruel place to lose, and let's not get above ourselves because we might be in the same position tomorrow.
I think proper football fans can be gracious and dignified - see Walsall's for example. I've never believed we have to hate our neighbours for us to succeed (except for the Blunts, of course).
Been a bit embarrassing reading some of our fans gloating. Good to see a sensible post. If we go up will enjoy playing them next season. Have missed that Derby.
Didn't think they played well today. Would be gutted if we lost without turning up. Can't see it. I would have liked them to have won as a South Yorkshire side. The immense pleasure I derive from us beating them does not extend to wishing ill fortune upon them against all-comers. Be nice to be playing and beating them next year mind!
yes nice one, im certainly not going to take the mick when we've got our own massive job to do tomorrow. and credit to the fowls if they have made it to the play offs without any of that undeserved parachute money.
I'm sure they'll go again next season, but they didn't turn up today. They don't have the parachute money that you mention, but they've got some an owner with some very deep pockets.
Not today they didn't because they never looked like scoring. Westwood pulled off three great saves, hit the woodwork, skied a squared ball over the ball that should have broke the net and had a decent penalty shout turned down. Could have had six before they finally scored with a strike worthy of winning any match. Not that a fancy goal means anything because Walsall scored the best goal of our two legged tie but it still meant nothing
They came up against a very good side, a side much better than themselves. Credit to them though, they've done very well this season and they have a side they can be proud of. 2 or 3 good signings in the summer and they'll be right up there in my opinion. Unlucky Wednesday, never a nice place to lose as we know ourselves.
A lot off Dee dar lovin going off on here. Dont forget they have had rich owner who has put a lot of money in this season, just as good as parachute payment. They bought there way too the playoffs and lost fair and square.
Given that parachute payments are estimated at present (i.e. before the 2016-17 upgrade for TV rights) to amount to £60M over four seasons, can you tell me where Wednesday have spent anywhere near this amount of money? There is a difference between having a wealthy owner and an owner actually spending anywhere near that much on the team. But hey - don't let the facts get in the way of your view.
Yes I know the poor blighters are skint, I mean we should have bought, hooper, foristieri, Wallace, mceady ,lucus joao, coz there cost f uck all.
Not quite what he said. Just that they haven't bought the league like teams such as Leicester did when they went up. Short memories. Never understand people rejoicing other teams perceived lack of success. Truth is Wednesday were a match away from the premier league. We know how **** that feeling is, so do have a bit of sympathy with them. Particularly as a lot of friends and family support them. At the end of the day is sport. A game. It's not worth carrying hatred and spouting bile about. Unless you want to sound like a Leeds Supporter. In which case carry on.
Both teams had the same calibre of players not much in them, all bought by parachute payments and rich foreigners. Dee dars wouldn't have been there any other season without monies given too them, both have bought there way there via different routes, I have no sympathy for that club am glad they lost because I couldn't stand listening to them thinking they are even more massive than what they already are.
Very very premature to start taking the piss out of a team long a play off final 16 hours before we play one.
Why am not taking the piss, I just think they bought there way to playoffs, let's face it they have been **** any other season and because I've said it isn't going to change the outcome of our game tomorrow. At least we got to the playoffs through building a team lead by great club coaching the proper way.
They've done well but have spent a lot of money. To me the job McCarthy has done at Ipswich in challenging for the play offs the last few years on a much smaller budget is far more impressive. They were up against it v Hulk though, no doubt about that. Several of that Hull team shouldn't be in the championship
I agree when a team has done it the right way and kicked!on every season and then got the reward then hats of too them, but sadly were running out off genuine clubs that are not bought or given lots of money to cheat there way to the prem. It does look an impossible job for Barnsley FC to ever get near the prem with the amount off teams getting richer.
