Up to and including last Sunday BFC could do no wrong. Hecky was top of the pops, Ben was superman, PC was lord god almighty, even Maurice Watkins got a mention ! No matter what we think or want it is not our business to run, those in charge appear to know now what they are doing, or as I said up to last Sunday they did and I'm sure nothing has changed since. We've had a terrific season but already some are starting to panic. Why ? What you have got to bear in mind is that players these days do not have loyalty to particular clubs, they are led by agents and the lure of greater financial glory. Also remember that the likes of Fletcher, Isgrove and Brownhill are not our players. Their parent clubs determine what happens with their own players. We might not like it but that's what happens. Just because a player kisses the club badge on his shirt means very little. I can already hear some complaining that "the club has no ambition, we should be in for these players, etc etc" but just take a moment to reflect. I'd love to know how much money BFC have made from their ventures this season, we'll probably never know, and with the potential "KERR-CHING" of a John Stones windfall (I hope), we may be in the best financial state for many years. Add to that next season's season ticket sales which undoubtably will be up on recent years, coupled with vast increases in match day revenue and we are definitely on the up. Leave the greater picture to those that can paint it. Already we've been in for a couple of players, we have our own coming back from injury, all of which means we will not be short next season, together with the next few weeks for possible new signings about which we know nothing at the moment. The only player I'd be disappointed to lose would be Hammill. He is a free agent but I am concerned he has found his feet again with us and will now want to move on. It's his prerogative though. I would have Isgrove and Fletcher back but that will be a wait-and-see scenario. Sorry for dragging this out but I couldn't help seeing the outset of panic by some on here.
I've not observed any panic. Given the fairly low transfer fees being discussed, for players who have performed well for us, it seems reasonable to ask why we're not trying to secure them on a permanent basis. The £200k seemingly for Brownhill and Isgrove, I would hope is within our means. I accept we may struggle to match salaries of BCFC and PNE but I'd hope we'd chance our arm. I've complete faith in the management team to make the right calls, but even so I'd have liked to have seen all of the 11 who started on Sunday in a Barnsley shirt next season. No panic.
Don't think it's panic. Certainly not for me. I've just grown really attatched to a Barnsley team for the first time in a decade, but more so even than before, and just really wanted to watch them play together and hopefully get even better. Sure we'll manage our business quietly and efficiently as we have done this year. Excited for the future. But will still miss the likes of Isgrove if we don't see them play again.
I think it's really good that people are expressing their worries about losing players on here. If nobody put any panic-stricken posts on here, Barnsley Football club would not realise that they needed to keep as many of last season's team as they could, and they'd let them move on without making any offers of new contracts or new loans or whatever. However, because they read this board they will now know what to do, and they'll start talking to the said players and/or their agents. Once they get back from which ever beach they are having their well-earned rest on.
