According to sky sports news. They are holding out for 500k... I'm surprised to see us making bids like that, I take it he is our number 1 priority?

Don't think £500k is that much, particularly if we get a John Stones windfall.

Peanuts to the rest of the championship.

    Surprised they've rejected that.

Likely priority 'new' signing, outside of offered contracts and loan re-signings. 500k for a league 2 player is a lot. Not unless we've go competition.

Or perhaps we could do a JCR. Feign disinterest and put in a lower bid just before the window closes.

I would walk away far too much money for a league one laiker that's not really done owt much.

He was the best laiker on the pitch at Oakwell only a few weeks ago. £500k is a snip imho.

In one game. I read some Colchester fans and reports and they don't seem to rate him all that highly.

Luckily I don't read what you say about footballers to make my mind up on whether they are any good or not. Did you not notice him scoring their first goal then?

Did you have your eyes closed during the game? He scored and bossed the first half, I picked him out at the time.

500k doesn't seem too bad for a championship club.

I'd rather take Mantom on a free. Box to box with a few goals to his name & seems pretty similar to Brownhill. Save the cash for a good striker....

I've just read their main forum and not one has said they don't rate him, they've all said very good young player with loads of potential. Probably became a bit ball greedy later in the season when it looked like they were going to go down.

Apart from that they sing his praises.

Moncur, is a Striker. Although he can play in the hole behind a front man as well. He's definitely not a central midfielder.

I never said they don't rate him. Just not that highly. I'm not saying your wrong. I'm just saying I don't think it's worth chucking £400k-500k on a relative unknown.

I would imagine thats the plan mate. According to the reports anyway.

With those 2, maybe another back up Keeper and a bit more cover across the back 4, then Hammill, Fletcher, White and Isgrove signed up, I'd be relatively happy going into the season.

I've seen him a couple of times and been impressed with him and I think he fits in with our recruitment strategy. Its a no brainer imho although I understand that not everyone will agree with me.

On the face of it, aif a mill on a league 2 player seems a lot, but its part of our buy em young and hopefully they develop into a saleable asset regime. If you look at it that way a million pound player is still cheap if weve done our due dilligence and he develops into the player we thought he could be and sell for a lot more. Its a decent system but not everyone will make it. From what i saw last season, theres a few players we could pluck from league one that would do well in the championship, moncur being one of them.
