Apologies for throwing a Whitey but from the Colchester Forum. Barnsley fan in peace Postby Terry Nutkins » June 7th, 2016, 8:35 pm It seems we are getting closer to the valuation that your club needs for George Moncur. When we played you at Oakwell in the 2-2 last minute draw I thought he was the best player on the pitch. I just wondered what he's like on a week to week basis, was that a one off or is that how he plays week in week out? When the game finished I thought he was a player we should be looking at for this season whichever division we were in but as we've gone up, I suppose the jury will still be out on whether he'll be able to hack it in the bottom half of the Championship. PS I hope you rightfully return back to League One. You definitely weren't in the 4 worst teams to visit us last year and on the day, especially in the first half, were the better team. He is absolutely useless and not worth £40,000 let alone £400k! Seriously, though, he will do very well for you though sometimes his decision making goes awry. However, that may not happen playing in a better side. You guys must be "over the moon" having been rock bottom when we played you in December. U's through and through since '62. Whether you think thats a good thing, or like me you think hes slightly overrated is up to you. he makes the same moves, both good and frustrating. he can be really classy, or he can be pretty anonymous and forget he has team mates he can give it to. i think he can play in the championship, but wouldnt like his chances of being first choice in a Derby or Brighton side. he plays well in the right circumstances, behind the front line arriving late to the box, but if hes marked hes often anonymous. if he can find gaps he can look like nobody can touch him. if you plan on playing him as a straight central midfielder, hes more hit and miss, especially of part of a 2. @ytdaveyt User avatar Eddy Melito Posts: 9192 Joined: July 6th, 2008, 11:50 am Top Re: Barnsley fan in peace Postby stoney » June 7th, 2016, 9:54 pm Talented but hugely frustrating - probably be better in a better side although the fact he scored 12 or whatever it was last season in a relegated side suggests he was a success in a poor team too! On the negative side he Shoots when he should pass, or takes an extra 30 touches and loses it when he should shoot! I'm sure we will miss him but he is one of those 'luxury' players that as soon as things go wrong the moaners pick on first. If you play with a number 10 then he will be ideal for you but as mentioned by eddy - he will be awol in a middle 2; we tried to shoehorn him in on the left when we switched to a 4-4-2 for a few games and he went missing then too....but, positives, he is a goal scoring midfielder and they are hard to come by. Half a mill is probably still a bargain in the current climate when you see the fees that clubs are paying these days. stoney Posts: 2033 Joined: August 1st, 2009, 3:40 pm
I was in Amsterdam last Friday. Nursing Bronchitis... I'd had it booked for months although I go 4 times a year so I'm sure I can cope. Back in July, and in October for a Week. Best City on Earth and I don't smoke shizzle.
I suspect none of us on here will have seen Moncur play live more than four times and most no more than twice, given the fairly small followings at the two Colchester away games this season and last. For what little it's worth, my view is that in the 2014/15 home game he looked good and a constant threat, in the away game my main memory was not of him but of their pacy wingers ripping Declan 'effin John to shreds. In the 2015/16 away game he took his goal well but that was at 3-0 down after being anonymous up to then. Conor had been imperious and bossed midfield. At 3-0 Johnson refused to make any subs, despite both Toney and White carrying knocks. At home this season I thought, as others, that he was one of the best players on the pitch albeit in a system that we don't play. My main point though is that I would think our scouting team have seen him a lot more than any of us on here and, in recent times, they have had a pretty decent record, which I'm happy to back, particularly with Hecky having the final say. £400/500k is a lot of money for us but we do have c. £7m extra to play with now and probably only need four or five players if we can keep Hammill, White, Fletcher etc
Isnt Payne at Southend out of contract? May be wrong but sure I read that somewhere. Best player I saw last season and plays a similar position to Moncur. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
apparently charlton are after him aswel http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2016/06/07/por-colchester-reject-two-bids-for-midfielder/
You could double up a a Millwall supporter with eyes like that . He had a reight game against us at Oakwell.
Looks a good lad to me Sign him up Hecky.. 500k is cheap as chips for a lad with this ability https://youtu.be/Sd6URMUWHT0
In my book a number 10 is a striker, don't you mean that he is not a centre forward? L2??, if he signs for us he will be a Championship player surely.
I'd read that there's just over £6m extra revenue in Championship (TV and solidarity payments), plus our extras from JPT and play-offs including the additional merchandising. Season tickets sales are up too, aren't they? We can also expect much bigger away crowds, albeit SYP will take their slice of that income.
Yes, £6 million juts from going up alone. £500,000 - JPT and then the Play off campaign including a 51,000 final with silly ticket prices.
I could be wrong be I'm sure I read somewhere that the play off losing finalists gets all the gate receipts.
The net semi-final receipts after match and travel expenses, are subject to a 50% football league levy. The remaining 50% is shared equally between all 4 semi-final clubs. For the final, the same principles apply except that the receipts are shared between the 2 clubs in the final. http://www.football-league.co.uk/global/playoffrules.aspx
Not true. Match receipts include ticket sales, programme sales and perimeter advertising. Once costs have been deducted, 50% of the final total goes into the FL pool. The remaining 50% is divided equally between the two clubs. Television facility fees are not included in the match receipts.
Might be curious to note that our current number 10 is Ryan Williams. From what little I can see of Moncur I think he'd fit in really well behind Winnall.
