It works in Spain and Germany, no idea about any other countries.

It might be good to develop more English talent, we'll have to wait and see.

sadly inevitable. are the football league getting any kind of cash injection from the premier league? or are the PL just using it to develop their players and keep all the money from their development as well? disgrace. what perfect timing, to get out of the football league and win the trophy!

the begining of the end of what? A trophy until 6 months ago no one on this board gave two sh*ts about winning and hope that we are never in the running to win it again. Anything to get the talented youngsters playing competive football is good.

Getting talented youngsters playing is what the loan system is for

Yo do know they will insist on u21 teams in the lower leagues next. The end of football structure as we know it. These Premier teams already Hoover all the talent from the lower leagues with no intention of ever playing most of them.
And the extra prize money going to Man Utd u21s will be just great.

Aren't they trying to do that with the new league structure - 5 leagues of 20?

The problem is for the fans. Fans of L1 & 2 clubs will be potentially denied the chance to go to Wembley

The whole point of the Trophy is to allow smaller clubs get to a cup final; not to block their path with U21 teams, many of whom may be better than L1 & 2 clubs. How many would Everton U21 take to Wembley?

Incidentally they've just done this in the Scottish Challange Cup; the Scottish Premiership's 12 U20 teams will play in the competition

2 different things. The 5 leagues of twenty is to cut the Championship down, and would eventually make for a Premier League1.
The other was League 3 for Prem b teams in a league between league 2 and conference.
They will get their own way in the end and some lower league clubs will become feeder teams or will just go under.

Really? what happened to it being a competition that gave teams from the lower leagues a chance to play at Wembley then?

You've taken the exact same thought out of my mind.
I doubt that anybody outside the U21 teams would give a toss for them, would you travel, pay good money, etc, to go to say Morecambe, Carlisle, Hartlepool and the likes to watch your team play an U21 Prem side. I wouldn't.
How many supporters would turn up for an U21 team at home to the likes of the above?
A Wembley final does not bear thinking about ! Sky Sports would have a problem showing a couple of hundred in Wembley trying to make it look full.

Not sure why everyone just wants to criticise all the time.

For me it'll be interesting to see how the bigger clubs deal with it. They have a lot of different Tournaments to go through.

At Chelsea it could be massive for them. They have some top talent but they hardly ever play for Chelsea at any level. Not Chelsea might keep a few more round and play them in this comp. Ruben Loftus Cheek's NEEDED game time for 12/24 month and okay now he's in and round the first team but Chelsea fans have been starved of the opportunity to see him. If this was around when he was say 17 then that would have been great.

Let's not forget the lesson Barnsley got off Manchester United u21's and it was a weakend u21 team at that. That levels also given Rochdale and others beatings this season.

Also whoever thinks there fans won't watch it. They will either at the ground or a massive audience on TV.

The people that matter must have voted for this to happen so people that will have the knowledge and understanding a lot better than a guy sat in Ryhill.

Oooh let me think what would a league 2 side prefer a chance to play at Wembley or a one off game that will help one of the big hitters in the Prem help maintain an already bloated squad

And take this in for a minute. The Premier League have got their own way with FA cup Quarter final replays axed because it makes them play too many games.
Yet the interfere with a competition that has nothing to do with them, make it into 4 team league system and automatically give the broke lower league teams with stretched resources an extra 3 games to contend with.
It's an absolute disgrace, and football groups on social media are already making plans for boycotts etc.

So long as a football fan in Hemsworth can cream himself thinking about all these wonderful u21 players invading a football league competition, then it's ok.
